Cauncy. You are going to have to warn them then tell them that youll confiscate there phone if you see it being used. Also have a zip bag they have to put their phones into while they work. If they don't use it then you'll take their phones. And tell they you expect every shift you expect to check that they are putting them in there. Make consequences around it too.

You'll have to be a dhik about it. I know you know how!

I read somewhere yesterday someone using loooooool to emphasise something. I think they may have lost sight of it being an abbreviation.

Its modern culture though, who says it has to have rules... but I would still discriminate against them if they can't spell!

Its interesting depending on what perspective you take - from employer/management or employee. I've done both and understand that sometimes you need to be able to take personal calls ( family health such as really sick or expecting baby) but when your management and employees take advantage while taking full smoko and lunch breaks then leaving on the dot! That's frustrating!
I used to have just work mobile but then as company got bigger and started making call restrictions and mobile data that means you need to have a personal mobile and then you carry 2 phone's ??.
I can understand some companies being supplied a dual sim phone which can be a good trade off ????

Not far off not needing to know how to spell at all and pens and keyboards are not far off being obsolete.
You can already just talk to your phone or laptop and it writes it for you, no need to write or type in the very close future.
Pens will be in a museum next to those feathers you use to dip in an ink pot. lol

Ahh you are too young to know better. What is also in that area? 'I think we will have flying cars within ten years', which has been said for decades now.

'I think we will have driveless cars in the next ten years'. Admittedly said a long time ago, but getting close now.

Us humans seem to be very optimistic when it comes to technology. Things seem to take longer than expected sometimes.

Even the idea that we will all have electric cars in ten years seems at the moment a good possibility, but I wouldn't be surprised if we only have a minority of them in ten years.

Things do often change in leaps and bounds, but sometimes they don't.

In business meetings, I still go in with paper and pens. It seems very trendy to go in with ipads, but I think I can do a better job at the moment with taking notes and drawing up diagrams, just with paper and pens. Customers seem to like you taking notes too, but with ipads it becomes a bit of a distraction. Imagine if you were in the same meeting and trying to make your own notes by speaking them... it would never fly.

Try and sell something without a business proposal? Doesn't often work. Try and sell something with a badly written business proposal. It probably won't work. Try and sell something with a badly written business proposal with poor spelling. It probably won't work. A lot of people will judge you and your business on this.

I bought a copy of Dragon Naturally Speaking. Its good being able to dictate, but I can just about type faster. The accuracy for voice recognition is getting better, but I think there is always going to be a need to proof read and correct.

Well I guess that is what the elderly will be employed to do, proof readers for the computers.
There are some already in training on Seabreeze lol

As for electric cars etc, most the major car manufactures are saying that they have plans in place to not be building any petrol/diesel cars within 5 years. Not sure if they will have quarter glass window or not though. Exciting times ahead.

Yeah, sure the manufacturers say that. I wouldn't bet my life on it though. These things don't always go to plan.

My take on this is that we won't go all electric until someone figures out how to replace the battery for long trips. Petrol is relatively cheap. Cars are relatively cheap as they are. What killer feature do we get from electric?

Will the government willinginly forgoe excise duty that they get from petrol and diesel? I doubt it. So how do they make up for that?

If they have quarter glass they will be rare and especially so if it was used almost exclusively as a farm ute. The value would be 50k if ever.

Not being able to spell is not an issue, unless you want to sell to people that can spell.

Was at a meeting a while ago where the person leading it had a tablet in front of him that was recording, turning it text then sending it to everyone via blue tooth to their phones.
So everyone had the notes of the meeting and didn't have to get distracted making notes and maybe miss something.
I guess if they stuff up in their job they cant say that they must of missed that bit in the meeting as they are carrying the instructions of the meeting in their pocket. lol

As for electric cars everywhere very soon?? Time will tell if battery's etc improve, but I just saw a vid of a drone carrying someone out over a lake to go fishing sooooooo, maybe flying cars will come first.

That person is lazy. He should have put together the presentation beforehand, but they probably thought they were Jesus and decided everyone wants to know the words that they said, even if they made no sense and had a lot of waffle.

Human nature says that those people will not even look at those notes unless they really need to.

You can do all this right now, the old way and just send everyone your slide pack or a word document. Without all the waffle of someone speaking off the top of his head. I would say that if this person can't compose a document, what they are saying is not that valuable.

Notes are what you take when talking to customers. It gives you a mental memory jog about what they were talking about, but just as importantly it makes them think that you are listening to them. This is very important in sales roles. If you are ever on the other end, tell me which one you think cares about your needs more than the other. The one taking notes, the one typing on his ipad, or the one that just blinks at you and asks the same questions over and over?

Not sure of the concept? Draw it up, show them, and see if its right. You can do it on an ipad as well, but so what.

I think batteries need to have a fluid electrolyte so that we can all fill up instead of recharge. Who wants to sit around waiting for a charge, or swap a spare battery in that is already charged? I noticed there were lots of Tesla recharge places in Cooma and Jindabyne, yet I only saw one Tesla. It seems the range from Sydney is a killer.

Yeah you are right but I guess its age perspective (maybe?) whether a pen and piece of paper looks more professional and that you are interested in the customer than if you are doing it on an iPad ?
I guess everyone's different with tech, I don't find it less professional if the person selling me something is doing with an iPad, but can understand some finding it less professional if they preferer seeing if the person spells and uses grammar correctly to decide to but the product or not

It's funny I was just talking with someone the other day about a job applicant that was taking notes and they got the job..

Taking notes it about remembering what is being talked about rather than for a record.

Also you can't draw squiggles things on an Ipad when it gets boring.

When taking notes by writing, most people can do it without looking down too much. With ipads, everyone has to look at the keyboard on the screen. Its like talking to someone who is not listening properly.

I am sure we have won business because we were listening to people as much as the quality of the product.

I look forward to a future where the customer is busy looking at facebook posts while other people are trying to sell them stuff by also looking at facebook posts and posting to instagram.

I use a pen on my iPad and laptop. Also use dictation app to record meetings and change it to text if I need to. Is this ok or should I be writing on paper then typing it out later??
Sorry guys the tech battle is lost. We need to train people to use it appropriately. My wife reads her book when some people come around, drives me insane. Same issue just different tech.

As with all this stuff, you should do what works for you. At least you are using a stylus, so it probably makes it less intrusive.

I used to work with this stupid woman that used to invite herself along to meetings and sit there typing notes on a laptop. Not notes for the current meeting, but from some other meeting... I shudder when I think that people like her think she is doing a good job.

Tech battle? The only tech battle I see is when people push you to use something that you don't need to. We got pushed to use ipads, because it showcases Apple's products to customers. Some hokey app to use as well, which was no better than just writing it free form, or on a notepad. Most people took them home and just gave them to their kids. Some didn't.

I got a Kindle when they first came out and am up to number 3. Even though they are good to read from, I still prefer a book, but I don't go to the trouble most of the time unless its in an airport and the book is not out on Kindle.

I'm all for training people to use tech appropriately, just not when its tech for just the sake of it being tech.
