How many hrs are lost due to staff usage per week, anyone set rules in their buisness?
excludes seabreeze of course![]()
I once locked a kids phone in the time locked safe. That way he couldn't get it back until the next day.
Needless to say I wasn't very tolerant of phones.
1) mine sites and phone use,
most mines nowadays have totally banned phones from being on hand during work in fixed plant, walking up stairs and near spinning motors pulleys etc its a fireable offence.
phones can be kept in the crib hut or alternatively if you are about to have a kid or the like you can have it on you but must have a letter or a card on you which says your authorised to have it.
Story: guy is on confined space watch playing his phone, thus turns the radio ( communication) down as he cannot hear his game on phone , he is not looking, guy inside confined space has medical condition and passes out, his unconscious for amount of time prior to another person coming to check on job catching guy on phone. Guy requires rescue and resuscitation and lives..
guy playing phone at $55 am hour gets fired .... not cool
2) office , we all sit at computers we have 2 or three screens everyone is always hectic. One guy sits on phone on Facebook half the day, does not meet kpi, and gets fired. Explains kpi too hard to reach........
3) I go into pub and want beer, part time model/singer behind bar is on some form of social media for ten minutes , now four humans are waiting at bar for refreshment..
myself and one other human walk out after ten minutes of being ignored. If I was owner of bar I would want to know why her shifts always came up short on profit.
4) driving my car person looking at phone steps in front of me doing 60k in 80 zone ( I had slowed down as I had seen phone zombie already) nearly hit him have to swerve, I honk loudly get finger pulled at me, next time pledge not to slow down or swerve.
monile phones are a disease, people are addicted, people in resteraunts take photos of food sitting opposite each other do not talk and spend more time posting food on social media and looking at phone than each other
they do not need religion anymore they have phones
all work places give you a mobile phone they set up internet and emails and tracking and monitoring...
screen time calculators etc etc.
now you have to answer emails all the time and weekends
I'm reading this thread on my mobile phone whilst doing my morning sh1te. Good use of time I think
soon enough they will be implanted in our bodies but probably initially through daily virtual reality glasses that allow you to monitor both the "real" and the virtual world. So whine all you want their use will only get greater not less.
This thread is just calling out for an app where you install it on your employees phones and blocks them from anything other than phone calls, and if they do it flags something. Maybe a running total of how many minutes they used their phone versus how many dollars they are going to be docked for it would be a good thing?
In the old days, for us old folk, when you were working and bored, you actually had to find things to do. Somehow we survived, and some of us even served the customers.

Met a few people whose phones I would have great delight in implanting on/IN their bodies, and it would not be viewable to the owners either
I had 2 sparkies doing work at my house. One of them is talking to his mates on his mobile. I shouldn't have to pay for that.
I hired a crane and crew to lift the mast off my yacht. Driver is talking to his mates on his mobile. I shouldn't have to pay for that.
If I was in business and employing people I would not allow personal mobiles on the job.
Having a phone at work I can:
- take photos
- check emails
-download and sign pdfs
- complete inductions
-store receipts
-board planes/check flights receive notifications
-pay for hire gear/consumables
- Store induction cards
-complete timesheets
-Access thousands of work files on drop box
-book Dr's appointments
-GPS
-Compass
-track my movements
Check instagram, wind, swell etc when I get stressed.
Get over it, they are invaluable.
^^^ Not every job is like that. There are plenty where the loss of concentration / time is not offset by the usefulness. EG laboring type stuff or the control room examples above.
Tech in general though - I thought it was great when my boy started highschool and you can email the teachers direct about issues and get an answer that same day mostly. Until I realised just how much they got...its crazy. They're answering emails in the evening at home and shouldn't have to
So in some jobs employees are slacking off, in others the employer is getting waayyy more hours out of the employee than they used to - with no payrise. The latter starts to become the norm and I'm concerned for the 'always contactable cos we gave you a device' becoming the norm. 38 hrs week and weekend rest days were fought for and we're boiling a frog at the moment.
So Mick back to yours - just ban them as its OSH (hot stuff, sharp stuff) and hygiene- can't pick up your phone repeatedly if doing food service.? Sorry kids, its the law.. ![]()
They'll be devastated.....
1) mine sites and phone use,
Were the opposite at my site. They provide you with a mobile plus the majority of workers are now all being issued a 7" mini-tablet. As stated by lazysurfer, the guys on the ground can get permits, pre-start machine, see drawing, log hazards etc. The benefits way outway the negatives., those workers that bludge on the phone would bludge anyway, newspaper, ciggies, books or just generally being lazy. Just got to employ the right staff and not dumbsheets.
I'm with Razzanator.
Mobile phones are a disease for the most part .
But they can do this and that everyone says .
Yes they can .
Most people are full of crap insisting they need them all the time.
They are amazing in what they do and have some great features . But,
Most people are caught up so tight , ( addicted ) , that they loose basic skills and pleasures .
If computers save sooooo much time , why is everyone on them all the time ?

I became even more negative towards social media when I started being around people that would post a lot to Facebook, or Instagram. If you didn't know them and just saw their posts you would think they were having a great time, all the time. In reality, it seemed to be made up posts to make people think how cool they were and what a great time they were having.
I guess that's a younger generation thing, but I am sure people my own age do the same thing...
My, at times high risk, workplace requires people to log on to apps for tracking/safety purposes and we are moving towards ePermitting for issuing of work permits.
However there are other areas where they are looking to ban them during work hours.

Not my buisness I've set a rule
its another, he's away and I call in for a coffee, fark me they were all on them, for most of the duration, looked like they worked patrons around their phone use, it'd be costing him huge amounts over a year

Supplied by work, used for work and social stuff. Essential work tool in my business . Sounds like some bosses aren't really doing their jobs and being the boss and getting staff to work .
Mobiles have become essential in some/most businesses now. Have worked at places where before you are even aloud to start work you need a google+ account. Use apps for LSM(loss sales monitors), SF etc.
They are part of business now and will be even more so in the future.
^^stop yelling
Just making sure you can hear me, some here might have their hearing aids turned down![]()

Some or most?
There are plenty where its a hindrance, like Cauncy raised.
Well duuuuh, I think most bosses would stop it in dangerous or customers waiting situations ???? So the bosses need to crack down on it, simples. Its not the mobile phones fault![]()

Well duh - are they essential in some or most jobs?
And Cauncy's point is the boss wasn't stopping it so it did affect customer service.
BTW - for info of Mr Tech - it is "Siri"
See if you can work the word "old" into a few more posts?
It's like trying to have a conversation with a simpleton so I shall give up.
Its not the mobile phones fault
no cell phone in sight
just folks living in the moment

As for Siri or Sirie, both are correct, but spelling dosent matter now days.... even you use young people talk and abbreviations now, good to see your adapting .

...but you wrote 'Serie', which is not correct.
Spelling doesn't matter? I can almost guarantee that even in 50 years there will still be people that judge others based on their ability to spell correctly.
..but you are right to an extent, as most people can figure out what you are trying to get across, it just pains us.
but u r write too an extant, as most people kan figure out wat yu r trying to get acrss it just pans us.

good to see you can laugh about it.
lol, its funny when some others use abbreviations, too lazy to spell it or don't know how, then judge others to try and make themselves seem smart, one should not throw stones in glass house, one should know that.![]()
