Really needs lentils as well as garbanzo beans(chickpeas) . Lentils are the King of pulses. I would also add steel cut oats as a whole grain.

It is actually not hocus pocus at all.

What the alkaline diet is is basically avoidance of acidic foods. It is a nonsense to suggest that that eating alkaline foods will change the pH of your body but eating a diet in which acidic food features highly will most assuredly make you sick.

Ask anyone who has gout.

And gall stones.

And inflammation.

And osteoperosis.

And arthritis.

The western diet is high in Acid, low pH. It tastes nice. Think sugar and alcohol. Phosphoric acid is added to fizzy drinks by the ship load to make them taste better.

The reason I know this is because I embarked on this road back in 2011. I am now in far better condition now than I was then. One of the first things I noticed aside from the weight loss and the general well being is the absence of pain in my knees.

Yeh I did a ph style diet - alkaline foods etc a few years back. Felt amazing. For the first time in a long time I used t wake feeling like I had actually slept well! But it's a hard slog and I couldn't keep it up. I still have elements in my diet and regularly fast say from dinner the night before until mid afternoon the next day. That helps to and is starting to gain traction through various studies.

But everything in moderation is the key I suppose.

basically the body has to maintain a very narrow PH range for the biochemical reactions to effectively take place. Also some bacteria just love a low oxygen environment promoted by an acidic ph.

To keep the body in homeostasis the body tried to discrete the acid but can only dump so much into the bloodstream. So it stores it in fat tissue including other toxins. It can't dump it into the bloodstream to be excreted from the body until the ph of the blood is such that it can take in the acidic toxins and still maintain that narrow ph range.

So simply ingest alkaline foods and the blood ph that results allows the body to dump the bad stuff into the blood stream.

Thats why if you take on an on an alkaline diet you can feel pretty sick for a few days as the body starts releasing the acidic toxins out the fat cells.

Electrochemically your body starts functioning properly. Less energy is needed to keep the toxins out the system and go into cell repair.

The problem with this storage of acidic toxins is the weak points of your body can become really vulnerable to this acidic environment. The bacteria flourish and not only use valuable energy they metabolise and excrete more acidic toxins which creates an even greater anerobic environment. Cell replication gets affected and we have generate more cancer type cells. The body cannot keep up the numbers of imperfect cells being replicated and these weak spots become hot spots for cancer etc to get the upper edge.

Makes sense to me as well and I can say empirically I felt a million bucks when on it.
