Another thought is a UPS (uninterupt power supply) they have a 12v battery internally, so feed it from an external 12v and that should give you PC quality power.
We go to Forster in April every year for a family holiday. I will never understand the price of camping.
For $587/week, I could get a little patch of grass for my tent with no views.
For $485/week, I get a modern 2 bedroom unit with this view from the bedroom and living room. (Yep, it's so close to the water I can talk to my kids on the beach from the balcony.)
Go figure??
Living in vans here in the west has become quite popular, or so I am led to believe by the TV. I've seen a few doco's on it, and while it may appear to provide a solution of sorts, long term it would be sh1t.
And to be frank, if you think powering your laptop is the biggest challenge then good luck to you.
You'd be better off moving to a small country town where you can rent a place for less than $200 a week and work from there.
I've been on the road now for about 3 years, half in my van and half in indo. Sometimes I take a break from the van and do a house it. Sure, you get tired of living in a cramped space but there are so many pluses to van life one being that the lifestyle is dirt cheap and you are not chained to a desk and working for the man. I also make a living online.
I spent a lot of time in SW WA this year and there are a couple of caravan parks that charge $90 per week for 1 person. If I'm somewhere for a couple of weeks, I'll bang up the tent.
I have a solar setup but it was in the van when I bought and has been invaluable. I blow up the inverter using heating products this year. I had some mechanical issues with the van in the middle of nowhere and it was a drama to get sorted, but it's a roadtrip and all part of the adventure.
In my view, if you are travelling during summer, a fan is critical for stinking hot days.
Go for it, once you make the leap it's hard to imagine going back. Good luck and see you out there.
I have been travelling a bit lately for work, jsut spent 7 month in NT and now 6 months down south. I have accomodation provided but no internet so I had to get mobile internet connection with a 4G modem............... well it is not cheap
$115-00 for 15g.
I advise you to keep an eye on the metering (got a $600-00 bill for spending an extra 8g ). The reception was not that good and my mobile wanted to do a Android update, it started downloading , dowloaded a bit, lost signal and restarted
all day for a few days!
I went to Maca to do the update but took hours, Maca WiFi is a bit slow so do not rely on it.
If you are looking for Higher speed mobile / remote data network have a look at Telstra Air.

i was going to invest in a van and do all that instead ive spent a large amount of time finding locations where i can do someing all year round rain hail night time etc etc you would be surprised how few places there are on this earth that you can surf kitesurf scubadive (without wetsuits!) paraglide rockclimb and hike all within 30 minutes of eachother. it was a pretty huge task untill i did a season surfing/kiteing in a place where i needed a wetty so that narrowed it down heaps. and there needing to be many forms of income for a dumb**** like myself and a cheap enough place with a coles/woolies also cut quite a few off the list.
anyways question id like to ask you is because one thing i could never really justify with the van was safe storage. i know i could cut some wirly bird vents in ceiling and have my gear locked up in a box/cage under the bed but i felt the heat was still allways going to get to the fabric and glue and ruin my canopys in a really quick rate. (maybe not so in a cool climate but no wettys (no wettys wasnt just a brrrr its cold deal it was a storage aspect aswell/drying times)
and i required just formyself an iveco / sprinter / transit for proper living living and that ment my pg spots were limited without 4wd and living on coast would be rust heaven and im allways reasonably not rich to any extent so id have to go for a delica for the 4wd but to small storage wise and she all just falls apart.
keep in mind i have been researching/testing this all out since 2009? (6 years of buying lotto tickets in hopes of buying an EarthCruiser hahahaha)
TLDR
IS a whirlybird in ceiling and keeping your kites under the bed cool enough to not **** the glues in your kite?!? (canopy/seam glues not bladder)

ive worked in a few desert sorta locations with "no" internet. what you need to do is plug your little 4g usb stick into an antenna then into an omni antenna (look a bit like a construction site hazard globe that you just wack on top the roof) basicly have to go telstra will sting you a few hundgy to get it all done but youll be amazed what speeds you can get when only other ****s on the network are farmers with high tec yarr arrays that just talk to there pumps and the shed and back

Hawaii comes to mind - but yeah, just realised there is no Woolies or Coles there.
Have you ever considered a slight compromise - maybe a thin wetsuit for half the year?
I did read in a library book that people in Europe use there trailer sailers as caravans & I thought why not they have beds fridge stove etc .
For example people from England driving down to spain for there holidays will camp in caravan parks using the boat to sleep in till they get to were they throw the boat in the water .
So I am going to put forth the suggestion why don't you hook a boat up as well & double at least your accommodation .
There are some really well fitted out trailer sailers plenty of storage lockers etc .
Some have showers . Nearly all have heads . You get decent water storage plenty of room for solar cells.
Have the bbq set up on rear rail .
I like the macgregor 26 they run a 50 or 60 hp so they are a motor sailor and will cruise at 15knots with motor .
The totally added advantage is you can cruise all the magnificent waterways we have as well and I can't help but think it would help pick up chicks .
You want to go back to my yatch must be more of a pick up line than you want to head back to my van.

When I'm out in the sticks I throw my phone in a pouch and sling it up an old 6m fishing rod off the roof of the troopy.
Wifi hot spot it to my laptop or Bluetooth to the hands free in the car.
Amazing what just a few meters in height will do for a connection.

thin wetty is a no go. need that heat
the higher altitude you get the colder it gets by a few degrees per 1kfeet so the cold ocean waters one thing (also **** all coral for diving) but also means airs colder closer to ground meaning i gotto start getting artic gear for flying and sitting on side hill with a balaclava 2 jackets and a set of gloves and mittens is not very fun just because you know its gonna me 15 degrees less up in the air so norways out so is switzerland and next best country to make easy minimum wage $$$$ is oz so sadly im stuck right back where i started from really.
