It amazing everyone is complaining about the lockdown not being strict enough, because Bunnings is open, but do you know how many people contracted it at a Bunnings or a nursery? I don't, but Health NSW would, and they make the decisions. It's fair to expect there is a full time team working on this will marginally more experience than a couple of grumpy kiters and windsurfers. I reckon they'd be just a tad better at making the decisions better than you guys.
Never ceases to amaze me that supermarkets are not and have never been super-spreader sites. Neither are the couriers who deliver Amazon and Uber Eats. Miraculous even.
Ummmmmmm, yes, yes they have. There have been heaps of supermarkets shut down and deep cleaned, staff forced into 2 week lock down etc.
Maybe not in WA as there are no cases and you arent and havent had major lockdowns....just a short spurt.
....One of my kids was telling me ....
Why are you talking to your kids ? Supposed to be in lockdown. People like you got us into this mess.
I sent mine to their rooms boxes and told them not to come out until they hear the jingling of Christmas bells. If they want to communicate they can push handwritten notes out through the air gap hole.
You are not serious. As if any kid these days is able to write things by hand...

You are right, and it seems that 'essential workers' seem to be the primary cause of spreading in NSW at the moment, at least according to the articles on news.com.au
I do worry here in WA though. Its one thing feeling superior to other states, but its just because we have been lucky so far. People here are no different to those in other states and have the same attitude, its just not been really tested yet.

Can you get back to being stalked by kiterboy. It takes the load off the rest of us.
'Fixed that for you'. 'Wot you said is not true'. 'Rubbish'. - that should get you warmed up and ready for the next cleverly thought out intellectual witty retort from kiterboy.
It should have read, "I was stalking my kids facebook page and they said"![]()
Kids don't do Facebook. It's for "old" people.
Someone must be reading this thread and have decided to lock down Bunnings!

I guess it makes sense, as they are still open for trades, but not for people browsing for plants.
What about those lockdown protests in Sydney and Melbourne a few weeks ago ?
Take into account that a bunch of them probably wouldn't get tested on principle, it would only be the people they infect that would then proceed to get tested.
I'd say it's part of the reason there was s significant jump in case numbers the past couple of weeks. A delay of a week or so for attendees to become infectious, spread it to the people they should be keeping away from, then those people to develop symptoms and then get tested.

Name one, provide a source.
Searching the news, on the first page of results there are literally 2 in the UK and 1 in Canada, that were reported as closed for cleaning, because workers tested positive but -- and here's the important bit -- there was no claim it was as super spreader site...
Articles about super spreader events -- not a mention of supermarkets. Unlike restaurants or gyms, churches etc.
We've had zero lockdowns where I live ![]()
So you think its ok that someone broke the law traveling and then put 10;s of thousands more into lockdown across the state is ok??
Protesting isn't illegal, neither is exercising freedom of movement. If laws have been introduced that contravene your constitution, then the laws are not lawful.
But oh yeah... "special emergency powers" -- you've got inalienable human rights ... but only so long as we let you have them, peasant.

You are living in Japan, correct? The place where people seem to have a bit more respect for society than other countries do. Also a place where if the government asked them to wear masks then most of them would?
Zero lockdowns you say? In a society where most people do the right thing?
Mind you I suspect a lot of them smoke without masks on, given the smell of some of the Japanese cars i have imported.
Really no point delaying the inevitable, other than protecting those at risk, people with compromised immune systems, the elderly, we need to learn to live with this virus & put it into perspective. We're just going round in circles.
Prolonging restrictions only leads to all the other problems, deteriorating mental health, declining economy, prevention via early intervention of preventable health risks. We need to consider the bigger picture, rather than focus on one virus which still does not top the top 10 killing people in the world today.
I received an email from the Liberal Democrats today with a link to their covid exit strategy which made a lot more sense. You only live once, personally I'd prefer to live freely than die under lockdown.
This is their policy below.

In a way, you've got that backwards. There's a proverb here that goes, "the nail that sticks out gets hammered". I think fear of societal pressure is not the same as respecting it, which becomes plain to see when people think society isn't watching them.
They *have* asked people to wear masks. And wash hands with the alcohol stuff, and not travel, and stay home from work if possible, recommended plastic screens in restaurants etc etc.
But the key point is that ... they've asked. There's no new laws, nobody is getting picked up by police for going outside their front door, given fines or police records, or shot at for surfing.
They've told people what the problem is, what your risks are, what steps you can take to mitigate your risks, and let the country get on with it.
The other key difference is the national philosophy that COVID was never unavoidable, it was never going to be eliminated, and "dancing with the virus" was going to be a part of life going forwards.
So yeah, people are doing the "right thing" but not through any threat of force or legal action. And not being forced to stay in their houses because of a handful of cases.
18% smokers here vs 12% in Oz
Yes, there's lots of standing around in groups smoking, especially right next to the entrances of well ... everywhere. Also it's only recently that some restaurants etc have started banning smoking indoors. So they go outside and stand ... right next to the door. Ugh. But if you're expecting people not to smoke in their cars, you're a bit mad ![]()
deteriorating mental health
Those sissy bitches need to harden the **** up and stay home. Bunch of spoilt pricks.

I suppose you could look at that approach as culling the infirm to enable the rest of society to get on with making money.
Let other people die so you can live freely.
Some of us are hoping we can keep the current outbreaks in check long enough that when we do open up, we've got vaccines, treatments and hospital capacity.
Yes we will have to live with this virus, probably forever, but if Australia opens up prematurely.....

Year to date, up until 30 June, the highest number of active cases was 317, back in January.
Just on 9 weeks later we're at over 9000 active cases.
We were doing pretty well at keeping it out of the country until this last outbreak started leaking across the country.
Short actual lockdowns work.
Long soft lockdowns are a @#$&&$#@%%&er for us and NZ

The elderly & vulnerable have already been given the opportunity to have the vaccine.
Although I made points other than that of the effect lockdowns have on the economy. You need to consider money does not grow on trees & health services cost a lot of money to maintain. Our economy has a direct ramification on health services available to our community.
Looks like you live in WA & you say some of us are hoping for improved hospital capacity. The WA state government recently announced a few extra dollars to bandaid over our hospitals after mounting pressure from the ANF after the little girl died & they tryed to blame nurses. But did they allocate extra money towards hospitals on the last state budget. No the majority went to infrastructure uggrades in roads & public transport.

So you've got more total cases now than our state has had over the whole thing, AND there've been no lockdowns. I'm unconvinced that lockdowns work as advertised.
Consider the basics: up to 14 days incubation period, infectious period of 6 to 8 days that typically starts 1 to 3 days before the symptoms show.
What exactly is a three-day lockdown going to do when it's been going around for at least 2 weeks?
If you think you're going to keep it out, then clearly you're deluded. The collective you, not you personally. Especially when you let people skip state-enforced quarantines.
