Of course we're all coming from the perspective of trying to fix the problem / help / prevention etc. But to do so, one has to acknowledge the problem. 13x higher incarceration rate does not show Australia is racist, it shows we have a crime problem within a group.
Then, that's why many say changing the date for Australia Day won't do anything as its a feel-good move that won't actually change the disadvantage and attitudes that lead to horrible crime like this.
More importantly, it makes one wonder about jail. That fella was happy to drive around in a stolen car doing robberies and didn't care he was on camera filling up. He is almost certainly going to be caught. So there is no fear of jail and/or drugs cause irrational behavior. He's have all the rehab programs and much Federal $$$ thrown at him since birth and its done nothing.
There's big big questions there.
