I have Brother printer/scanner combo, with 2 macbooks (wife + me). One computer prints/scans, no dramas, never had to do anything, fine out of the box.. The other computer has never worked to print. Can scan, but doesn't print.
Same computers, same operating system, same wifi connection. So if my wife wants to print she has to print from her phone (which will happily airprint, no setup required) or send it to me, and I press 'print'.
wtf

There's still a few things that could cause that. Firewall for one, but presumably you both have the same setup. Also the printer wifi band, if you opted 5ghz signal on yours and the wife went with 2.4 that'll do it. There's other things surely, but I'm not very tech savvy.
I work in IT.
You love computers compared to how much I hate them.
Haha yeah OK
I just deleted everything and started over.
Then the printer told me it had the wrong head which it clearly does not. Given what was said above about drying out, I left it on for a day hoping warmth helps, then upon a restart it said it was cleaning the head and now it works.
Yay for me. Still have an issue with a machine giving 2 dialog boxes with mutually exclusive info only seconds apart. Dumb. But at least I can print now

I've had that exact issue with my missus for many years.
