Dr. Coleman: Only idiots wear face masks anymore (frontnieuws.com)
The big problem with masks is that the reduced oxygen intake is accompanied by an increase in carbon dioxide intake. The tighter a mask fits the more likely it is to reduce blood oxygen levels and to increase the amount of carbon dioxide being inhaled. In my book I've quoted research proving that this is a real hazard.I've also explained that lower oxygen levels and increased levels of carbon dioxide stimulate greater inspiratory flow - leading to a greater risk that loose fibres from the facemask will be inhaled.

That's why surgeons keep passing out during long operations - not.
That article doesn't sound like the work of a sober individual. He sounds like a crank.

We've been through this one on another thread. The blood maintains a constant pH between 7.2 and 7.35, if it's getting near either figure breathing will speed up or slow down to compensate.

I think the anectdotal evidence suggests that not wearing masks lowers IQ. Or do I have that the wrong way around and they had low IQ before the 'not use' of masks?
Hmmm... do I believe the idea that face masks can stop airborne particles? Well surgeons seem to wear them. I guess I can agree with something I cannot see myself.
or do I believe that a face mask increases the CO2 intake I have even though I cannot see it myself. I did see someone random say its a fact on facebook, so I think I will believe that instead.
Sometimes I think these anti mask wearers are **** wits. Other times I just turn off the laptop.
Does that mean we have to stop using our respirators when sanding carbon etc?
I fell asleep once while wearing a mask sanding a board. I woke up after sanding through two of my fingers. That CO2 is dangerous stuff.
Joking aside, when I am sanding anything without a mask I will later feel it in the mucus in my nose. When I wear a mask, there is no such problem and clearly no issue from O2 or CO2. I am sure there would be if I was an antivaxxer expert.
I'm driving a 90 year old around today, she's wearing a mask and seems to be doing just fine.
No, No! Tell her the error of her ways! If she keeps doing that she will probably be dead within a decade. If not, she will almost certainly be dead within 3. I have met people that wore masks and died before they were 90, so she should be careful.
I was in Tokyo recently. Roughly 1 in 20 on trains weren't wearing masks. They were ALL sniffly/phlemy/coughing. The mask wearers didn't seem to be. Pure coincidence I'm sure.
During 2020 when people all wore masks around the world the rate of deaths by heart attack dropped and peaked again in 2022.
2020 also saw a peak in Netflix use.
Therefore the combination of watching Netflix and wearing masks saves lives.
The cow is brown and the dog is brown so therefore the cow is a dog.
Using that actual chain of logic:
Increase in masks correlates with decreased heart attacks, increase in Netflix also correlates with decreased heart attacks, therefore Masks are Netflix?
Bizarre

Logic? nah no logic used or abused in that post. ![]()
I know a early forties Chinese guy who has been wearing his mask pretty much full time for around 2 years.
He stopped wearing it for a week or so 9 months back, but it didn't last long
May have felt naked
not to mention vulnerable to bogey man viruses.
A black mask as well.
He works in a cafe in the city for 10 hours a day and i heard he wears it there too ![]()
I tried to bring up the subject with him but with the brainwashing.........could not get past go.
Super religious that one. Not in God but in their science.
Lost cause unfortunately.

You are trying to wind us up right?
This guy has worn a mask for 2 years in your example, and has not shown any problems from it, and continues to wear it? What a loser!
...and then you try and tell him it is he that is brainwashed?
What next, you are going to run through the city telling people that wearing seatbelts has shown that they are brainwashed?
A lot of Asian women wore face masks long before covid, I thought it was about air pollution, I then learned that they just didn't want their face to get sun tanned.
I think the studies showing serious side effects from masks are a bit of a beat up. I think the ones that can show lesser effects probably have merit, irritation, claustophobia in some, developmental retardation in young people due to not leaning to read facial queues etc.
But on the flip side there is zero evidence (as per many studies before and after COVID) they do anything to stop community spread of COVID. At least the ones people loosely wear and mostly just breathe through the sides are useless. Medical N95 ones the surgeons wear are a different story.
Japan is a culturally conformitive society. They wear masks because culturally that is what is expected and you will be shamed if you don't comply.
Wear them if you want, just don't force others to think the same as you do.

Hope your not referring to that Cochrane review? Because, Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you agree that if people wore N95s appropriately that it's possible that would reduce community transmission?
When they were worn correctly in settings with good compliance, such as schools and hospitals, combined with other measures like distancing and not congregating, there were significant impacts on transmission.
The OP is openly mocking others who do not think the same as him and it's kinda like you approve.
In his latest video available on Odyssey, Jeff Berwick mentioned there are pros to have mask wearers walking about in public.....
He goes on to explain that if a beautiful girl fancied him and she was a wearer of the diaper he would be put off completely as he reckons the majority of beauty comes from the inside.
He also said it is a great way to identify those in society incapable of independent thought.
Society seems to be splitting in two.
The vast majority who cannot see the obvious - think the last 3 years and the small minority who can put the pieces together through their senses, spiritual awareness and basic commonsense.
He goes on to say it is a good way to separate the wheat from the chaff ![]()

I suspect that it is a theoretical question from this point.

For someone who believes in the autonomy of the individual and abolishing authority, he seems extraordinarily critical of people doing what they want instead of what he thinks they should do, because he's an authority on that.

N95's definately work to some extent, but even thier effectiveness is questioned in relation to COVID, which is highly transmissive, aerosol driven and spread in communities mostly by superinfectors shedding massive amounts of virus.
The issue is not about various studies that show some effectiveness of masks in labs or certain situations and other studies that show no effectiveness at all. The problem is that in relation to COVID, there is no evidence of any benefit or slowing of spread in communities that had mandates or higher levels of masking than others. The macro data clearly shows no benefit at a large scale community level of mask wearing and especially mandated mask wearing.
Those that claim there were benefits from focused lab studies suffer from tunnel vision and are not looking at the big picture. We had a mass study done on this and quite simply cities with high mask wearing and mask mandates provided no benefit in reducing transmission rates or incidence of infection to those without it. It is that simple.
"As Dr. Shira Doron, an epidemiologist at Tufts Medical Center, puts it, "It is simultaneously true that masks work and mask mandates do not work."
They can show benefits in a lab in ideal conditions, but in the community they are of no benefit. messaging-custom-newsletters.nytimes.com/template/oakv2?campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20220531&instance_id=62786&nl=the-morning&productCode=NN®i_id=189419024&segment_id=93785&te=1&uri=nyt%3A%2F%2Fnewsletter%2F63d6a47f-17a6-55ab-997e-4b405bc526c4&user_id=496be6366d9a5bd625147a2c73138cd5

See, here's the rub. Mask effectiveness is different to Mandate effectiveness.
You say masks only work in specific circumstances and that they are useless at reducing community spread. You back that up by saying that mask mandates didn't work particularly well. Which is true in a lot of areas.
But in areas where mask mandates had high levels of compliance, there was significant reduction in community spread. (I'll try hunt down the links to a German study that showed up to 47% reduction in spread and another from Hong Kong that showed 20% reduction)
But if an individual wears a mask correctly in the community, they will reduce their likelihood of getting sick. Which is not what the OP is saying.
Masks are not a silver bullet, but they are useful tool. To imply otherwise, based on the fact that people don't want to wear them, is misleading.

CONCLUSION
Lifting the mask mandate in Portugal was associated with an increase in COVID-19 incidence and deaths, which high-lights the positive effect of face mask policies in preventing respiratory virus transmission and saving lives. These results may, therefore, aid public health authorities in choosing appropriate mitigation measures for future pandemics.

Please do not respond to this ignorant troll. He has no life and just enjoys putting stuff up here to get a reaction. Surprisingly he paraphrased this one usually it is just a broken link.
Face palm emoji to me for responding (Laurie we need a facepalm emoji).
Have a good one and get on the water and remember to always post a pic some folks are illiterate.
