Should send the fxckwit the bill for cleanup. Some satellite or astronaut will probably wipe themselves out on it one day.
Yes the guy is a legend. I watched a doco on him a few years ago and he speaks about sustainability, world working as one, using clean renewables etc. Truly amazing and on another level, the guy is beyond smart. Guys like this that should be running the world.

It's heading to Mars
Its pretty cool being able to launch something like that, but to me it shows how much really went into the USA's space program. They say this is the most powerful rocket of today since the Saturn V rockets, but consider the technology available when the Saturn V rockets were developed.
Running rockets and space capsules on computers that were glorified calculators is pretty amazing compared to today where things can be simulated and computer processing is thousands of times faster.

And the car is now going to miss it's target.
Guys like this that should be running the world.
He's smart enough to know he doesn't want that job!
Yes alot of hard work and huge $$ to get to this stage.
I rate a person which can laugh at their failures, here is a video he put out of some of his earlier attempts![]()
Elon Musk may never be candidates for Presiden of USA, but we may wonder what consequences it could have if a genius like that direct whole country.1) It could be waste of talent to be involved now in dirty politics and unsolvable social matter. wasting his time on empty disputes and repealing political enemies ( read opposition) 2) Alternatively, a leader like that could open a new chapter in human society bringing social engineering to completely new level. Well above nowaday division. A powerful leader with bright vision, but unlike Mao on Lenin, based on common social agreement, not force.
This is how the junk yard looks like where Musky just dumped one of his unsold roadsters:

It was aimed at a Mars orbit, not Earth. And, as it turned out, they've overdone the boost and its heading more for the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Hehe. What makes you think near-geniuses and smarty panted perople don't run countries by pulling strings?
Politicians don't do much. They take campaign funds and look after their base and themselves. They don't have to be geniuses for this. That's just resourcefulness, selfishness and greed. The government office holders do the hard lifting - especially in budgeting and finance.
Look at Barnaby Joyce - he can't even live up to his own self-proclaimed family values. ![]()
He's no genius. He's a brainy douchebag that just littered space with pointless junk. About the same as paint-bombing the side of Mount Everest.
Agreed. A genius would see that sending a car into space with a very expensive rocket is near pointless.
A genius would reinvent extra-gravitational propulsion.

I think you missed the point, he didn't abandon anything in near earth orbit. He brought everything back to be reused. So the third booster didn't survive. This is a huge leap forward to the way things are done by everybody else in the field. Whether we need a mars or moon colony can be debated, but the earth is running out of resources, and the asteroid belt is littered with them. There could be very good reasons for having a sustainable way of getting into space.

Also not a good idea to entrust an expensive package to a trial run, that could have exploded on the launch pad. The Tesla on the other hand is great advertising.
When you think of the number and complexity of the stuff he's involved in. He'd have to be a genius in business organisation even if he wasn't fully on top of every aspect of his enterprises.
I also had the thought, "how much better off the world would be if he was in Donald's shoes". But like Macro said, he's too intelligent to want that job, and besides there's much more interesting stuff to do with his time.
He's no genius.
Here is a Ted talk from mid last year of some of his current project that he has running concurrently. To be able to design and achieve one of his projects would be amazing, he running 8 simultaneously.

Well indeed. Only people stupid enough to declare themselves stable geniuses get to be president of the corporation-dominated country commonly known as the United States Of America.
Smart people stay away from that role and stick to running the corporations. Some are in the death corporations - the bomb makers. They be bloody smart fellas - smart enough to fool enough people to engage in these useless wars - udderwise - no business!
Pretty easy to spot the keyboard warriors on this thread!

Yeh, just burnt 300000 tonnes of fuel to put a car in space, real ****ing sustainable
not like hydrocarbons are a ![]()
limited resource or anything

Just FYI, a test rocket's payload is usually a block of concrete. The car was his own to do with it as he pleased and in doing so has done more for reinvigorating the public's interest in Space than any government has in a long while. We all benefit from the technologies that he has invested his own money into so he gets a big pat on the back from me.
PS -I don't see many South Australians whinging about his technology atm.

They will once the battery has run 2000 discharge cycles, can no longer power an iPhone even on reduced settings and they have a block of unrecylable toxins they get to store forever
He is not a genius in that sense he invented something or discover.
Neither electric car or rockets. But somehow he takes over challenges everybody knew that need to be resolved but nobody dares.
He genius is hidden in this pragmatic approach that makes things happen.
We could have golf carts for next hundred years as the only known electric vehicle.
We could observe absurdly expensive space exploration of the Nearest Low Earth Orbit and few clowns living at International Space Station at the cost 1 billion per person per year or more at the expense of the 8 billion people on Earth like you and me.
Actually quite a gifted family......considering they immigrated from one of Trumps SHxxhole countries (but maybe they are the right colour?)
Here Elon's brother Kimbal.
Bankrupting the Russians with this new era space race and grabbing their resources would be more realistic, wouldn't it ?
Like they did in the 80s to the USSR.
Edit. MAGA![]()

I am surprised that Russians didn't solve rocket reusability by now.I am pretty sure that with expertise in avionics their fighter jets could land vertically on their tail if you ask them to do so.With whole government money and substantial funds, thousands of engineers they could capture this part of the economy with easy.
Of course, they do provide crew transport to ISS and return trips but that is all. Old technology 50 years old. Their tanks are much more modern than their space rockets. Now Elon is selling Falcon Heavy trips for mere 90 mln for 65 tonnes payload.
Beat that!
For a moment in recent history Russians managed to develop and build the best rocket engine, but instead of building a vehicle they been selling those engines to the US . Now the US duplicated/ copied the design and build their own and improved versions.
For the money wasted on hosting Winter Olympics in Sochi Russians could develop rocket science at 21st-century level.
Tesla has never made a profit and lost 1.96 billion in 2017 alone... bigger scam than bitcoin
Maybe Tesla will be written off later or sooner but thanks to Elon every car manufacturer in the world now is working on the electric car.
It may not happen without Tesla as we have plenty to oil and coal to sell.
If you ask our prime minister coal will be preferable fuel for Australian made vehicles until the end of the century.

Lets imagine now hay powered utes speeding at our cities and motorways. Even improved version with load of coal at the back .

Thats just what you say.
Whenever marco talking about Elon Musk it reminds me of smithers reclining and fantasising about Mr burns
