He's already chipped, but I'm wondering if there's a tracking type chip I could plug into him, like a microchip, and track him on my mobile, if the need were to ever arise ?

Don't waste your money or rely on gizmos. they won't replace training. working on a solid recall is key to ensuring that 9 times out 10 your dog will come back to you. Its repetitive but essential if you want control over your dog. Use a long leash - k9pro.com.au/shop/leashes/syn-tek/ -to keep him safely within your control whilst you work on recall.

training, everyday is key

good luck

It's all good Ados, I'm not working at the moment due to a shoulder injury, so I've got him 24/7 and his training is a constant thing

My biggest concern (other than the blood pouring from my hands and forearms ) is that if I park him up at the shops for example ,and someone nabs him,

I'd like to know where to take myself and my machete to, to retrieve him

Thanks for your reply

Will look into it

Is theft of Staffies that bad over here? I've heard of it but didn't think it was really that much of a concern.

Anything that could track him would be on his collar anyway, so the thief can remove it. Unless you go for a motorcycle chain around his neck or similar. Anything that can be implanted that would be capable of tracking him would require a battery of sorts.

You can get simple tracking devices from Jaycar where you have a range finder and 4 remotes. When they go out of the range you set the beeper goes off. Of course, a thief can remove them easily too.

I would be more worried about poisoning especialy if you bring him up here veebs. We have had 6 dogs in the last few weeks poisoned. Some prick has been dropping poisoned sausages around town so we havn't even taken our lab for a walk since it began. If they find out who is doing it do you want to bring your machete up here?

I think they already have them for kids ( not sure about in Aus )

So that's where my line of thinking started

Whilst ya mutts being chipped, why not just put in a tracking chip while your at it

I've probably just made some tech head a billion dollars starting this thread

Hey Nova, the bit about chipping

I think you need to give me more detail. I don't understand what it is I missed.

There are no implantable chips that would let you track your dog. Its just not available right now, so the only option is to use something on a collar, which is vulnerable to being removed.
