Soo?? Who exactly is going to catch us and fine us? We have so so many bureaucrats making up so so many rules at such a pace it's mind blowing! But who is going to enforce the rules?

I think it is the non productive bureaucrats trying to save their jobs by making up bullsh1t rules, what do they add to the GDP?

Same guys who will monitoring everyone using non-compliant ropes when the new legal laws take affect later this year I suppose Like the system has enough people to check all the crap the technocrat mung-beans keep coming up with.

I don't mind so much about the stove getting sidelined - as long as I can still get the cans of gas.

my half made brass annealing machine is designed around my butane torch, and I don't want the hassle of changing my design again.

you're going to **** around over $20 ?

i'll continue to use my two for steamboats . This ruling is just to protect ****ing idiots who should be up for a darwin award anyway

Yeah me too. While I am certain the NSW and QLD cookers are no more or less dangerous as ours in the west, the bulletin only recommends them not to be used. It doesn't ban their use. I'll continue to use mine until I can no longer buy the gas for them.

Toph, best check on actuals with the use of these here in WA, as on news a few nights back, these were claimed to be "banned" from sale here in WA and an incentive not to use them, a $2000 fine in place if found to be using these items. I may have miss-heard the topic, but best to be sure
Just took my old ones back to outlet, all received, and store credit given. Bit of a pain as these are great to use.

mineral could you let me know where this was written.

That's the problem isn't it. If it wasn't for Seabreeze, the first a lot of us would know tie down ropes and portable gas cookers are banned is when we get pinged by a Ranger or Cop. No where else have I seen this advertised.

I think I might keep away from seabreeze and keep using my cookers and tying my boards down with rope. Ignorance is bliss

They are a standard type of gas cylinder, so I would expect they wouldn't disappear. They are used in a lot of other things besides these cheap stoves. They evolved around the idea that these type of cans were already certified for aerosol use with butane as an propellant, so they decided to just use butane as a fuel source.

On ebay you can buy adapters for these cylinders to go to the threaded type connections and vice versa, so you should be able to find options. In my case, BCF even sell an adapter to go from these cylinders to a screw connection, so you can use other gas burners with a threaded connection.

Is your butane torch the threaded type of the clamp-on type?

Mine are "jam it on and twist" butane burners - taking the same cylinders as these stoves.

The cans have the locating slot near the rim.

I should be ok for a year or so - I have 30ish cans in the shed, so if supply ever runs out I will convert to either LPG or mains gas.

Looks like a few single and dual burner stoves are now being recalled, with more likely to come:

Oztrail—The Anywhere Stove portable butane gas cooker
AHM Limited—Campmaster Twin burner portable butane gas cooker
Austcrown Pty Ltd—Auscrown AD90 Handy Range
Chens Bros Trading Pty Ltd—Butane Gas Cooker
Sitro Group Australia—Twin Portable Butane Cooker

pains me to ditch my dual burner but I have to say if not used properly they are dangerous.

take my wife for example. tried to blow her head off at broken head last xmas and ended up with extinguishers, fire blankets and stunned onlookers.

so what are the good replacement options? was at the camping shop before easter stocking up and there are some pretty good compact stoves around with grills under. they are all cheap so do any stand out from the pack?

Not replacing mine or chucking it.

Cooked for 2 hours straight on it again today....

and as I have done for the last 3 years...every day and night...
as it's the only cooker in my nonexistent kitchen.

Nothing wrong with mine if you use it right.

i have 2 of these stoves, and love them. after years of being told that my gas bottle has expired and i have to buy a new one , and they dont stock the size i want or the shape to fit my bracket, along came these stoves, WITH A CLEAR WARNING NOT TO PUT WHOPPING GREAT BARBIE PLATES ON THEM.
now its back to that same old crap.
they are still flogging the gas at bunnies though

How nervous do you think I was when last week after the big storm when power was out for 4 days my partner insisted on cooking on one of these in the house each night! As if the storm , flooding , trees down and no power or water weren't enough stresses..insert eyes rolling icon..He knew re the warning and wouldn't listen to me... As he said probably just if you don't use them correctly..
