Colin Bond's Alfa years. See the Alfa Romeo GTV6 again battling it out against the Jaguar XJS and also the Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo leading at Amaroo Park 1987.

DB9 and the new Alfa being the same .... I think not.

The DB9 was designed by The DB9, designed by Marek Reichman and Henrik Fisker a pair of germans I think, and the new Alfa, designed "in house"

I am hanging for a test drive in the new Quadrifoglio but it would need to be very very good for me to outlay the dollars, but sell my 159 Ti Q4, I think not.

SandS guess each to their own but until you have owned and driven one, one is really able to comment. Mine shares the carport with my italian bikes, ... but I can sit at the lights knowing that there is bugger all chance of another one being next to me .... fulfillment of "bucket list", another Alfa

hahahah does that really do it for you ? sitting at the lights knowing the car next to you is probably not a shiittbox spraying nuts and bolts all over the road !!!

Quantum of Solace, James Bond 007 Car Chase Aston Martin DBS + Alfa Romeo 159.

If this had been an Alfa Giulia QV then Bond would not have got away ! Forza Alfa.

How's the sound coming into the straight? Insane. You'd be forgiven for expecting that a V10 F1 was coming around the corner straight.

Sound of a V10?? that was last week. It's now the sound of a Malleys Whirlpool on spin cycle you've got to watch out for.

Yeah. Petrol racing will be for enthusiasts in vest and berets before you know it.

No gears, no drag from a gear box. Torque makes a petrol engine sound like it's all talk.

Petrol is dead tech walking.

Yeah that Alfa probably is junk Darth - going by the price.

Still, I'd rather this car.....

than I would this car, any day....

But, if Richard must have it, so be it. An Arna for you it is Richard. Enjoy!

Adriano, In that case I would take exception and have the Skoda. Well spotted the worst Alfa ever is not a substitute for the Skoda. In fairness the ARNA was a rebadged Nissan.

So not "any Alfa"....

That car was an insult to all things beautiful. Everything in this scene is degraded by that abominable disgrace.

Obviously, I'm just pulling your leg but clearly, you wouldn't chose any Alfa over a Skoda just as I wouldn't chose any Skoda over an Alfa. I mean you wouldn't drive a MiTo 58kW auto would you - seriously?

To be frank, there's only one Skoda I would buy - and that's the Octavia vRS. It is soooo much better than the others it's practically not even a Skoda. At $40,000 it is I think the best value new purchase family sports package on the market. Skoda even managed to somehow give it some personality! I was surprised when I test drove it because I still had serious "brand doubt" at that time.

Like I said, if I had $80,000 to throw away and Alfa made an estate Giulia, I'd buy the Veloce.

Or of course Richard, you could drive this....all 58kW of auto brutality....

But what is it? It looks like the sort of thing driven by soccer Mums before they discovered the extra practicality and upright comfort of SUVs. Is it fast? Why would you buy a fast car if it didn't look fast? If it was fast you could take it to a track day. On a public road it's gotta sell on its looks?

So curiosity got the better of me and I googled a "Vrs".

www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/skoda/octavia-vrs

"At slow speeds, aided by the vRS's more sophisticated and quieter multi-link rear axle, the Octavia barely feels sporty at all. Only marginally more verve from the helm gives the game away -"

If the aim is to polarise the people you meet you're better off spending 3 or $ 4 K on an Alfa GTV.

I just don't get what you mean by practicality and better seating position of front wheel drive SUV's. In my opinion, SUV's are less practical and have worse seating positions. Harder to get in an out of, less luggage and seating space, poorer dynamics, efficiency and performance, less comfy on long drives and the freeway and less safe.

Certainly nothing "sporty" about an SUV. It's branding at best - and plenty of people fall for it.

The ideal seating position is apparently how you sit on a horse. That's why, when left to your own devices , you tilt forward on a chair. I could never even approach this ideal position in a commodore wagon but I can get pretty close when cruising in a T4 van. The van is streets ahead for comfort on a long trip. SUVs are somewhere between. Have you been in one? Practicality wise, for a given footprint an SUV is boxier and can fit more stuff in. You can't beat a low C of G for dynamics so SUVs are behind there. How fast do you need to go around corners?

Performance? Depends how quickly you want to burn fossil fuels. Nothing too clever about it.

I don't know what SUVs you've been in... perhaps if you are on the shorter side, you might struggle? How tall did you say you are 5'2"?

anyways, I find the higher seat position makes it easier to get in and out, load kids etc etc... also, seats are higher off the floor... which is good for a 6'2" fella like me

Depends what you lump into the "SUV" segment. Are you talking FWD RAV4? That's your kinda car isn't it?

Subaru the whole way for me... sometimes they make models which look OK as well... perhaps every 10 years
