Retards, ,fashionista or farktards

Yup. Retarded fashion
But hey, the $200K plus to go away for a little while means you have the $$$ to run aircon allll the time. Is it camping, or taking a house with you?

This is the one that intrigues me. The dude has a brand new F350. Then gets it fully worked over, probably not giving him much change out of $300k and running at close to 30L to the 100km. Then tows an equally impressive van and week or so later the rig breaks down. Maybe I'm missing the point...but I don't get it.
Seen a sh!t load of these big $$$$$ vans and rigs at camp sites where people put their sat dishes up all so they can have the luxury of living at home and spend half the day in them. Why bother going away.

Even worse, there's an endless supply of stupid ****ing music for these lifestyle youtubers.
I've got a mid-dark grey work van that gets my sailing gear chucked in the back, no doubt it heats up more than a white van. My wet gear drys for the next session, no cold wettie in winter and always make sure to undo my board vents etc... no issues after 18months.
Did a fitout on a white van last year and on any given day, both grey & white vans without insulation, I reckon the temp difference was a minimum 10?C. The key to keeping the internal temp down is efficient insulation, ventilation and yes, white goes a long way to helping.
A neighbour has one of those big dark vans, it's made of very well insulated panels. I was surprised how there was little heat transfer to the interior when he opened it up for me to have a look on a hot SE Qld day. The heat was getting in via the glass, could feel it. Once inside, got some ventilation happening and the whole thing was perfectly comfortable on a mid-high 30s day without AC running.
Of course don't lean on a panel in direct sunlight, these dark lumps of metal will peel ya skin off.
All pros and cons

I have an Elgrand, and have taken it camping in the snow, well at least into Jindabyne. Surprisingly it is very comfortable, but when you find out how much insulation it has, it all makes sense. It has insulation on the floor, and insulation in the roof. Probably for sound deadening as much as anything, but it is good how well it copes in cold and hot temperatures. By contrast I remember sleeping in a commodore wagon a few times and freezing. No insulation and all that exposed steel to take the heat away.
As for insulating a shed, I think I have changed my mind. I think bulk insulation beneath the roof would make a substantial difference. You are stop the radiation of the heat into the space, which is all you can hope for. How do they do this in big buildings? Suspend it on wire mesh or something?
By the time it gets consistently hot enough to piss these kinds of peeps off..., most here will be 6 foot under. Somewhat ironically those that are left will live in caves anyway. But yes op, you're correct ...., so many of today's consumers(usually those of the alternative gender) are guided primarily by an image based value system.
I also cant understand why probably 70% of vehicles these days are Silver/Grey shades. I nearly ran into one a couple months back ( I know it was my fault for not looking properly). But they blend in with the road very well.
^^ don't get me started on that one! Turn bloody lights on in the country. And the amount I see with park lights on, duh can't see them. especially now they're a dinky little circle of LED's around the real light
Time for a new ADR - lights come on at anything over 90. All cars

How about indicators that are more than a bright dot while we are at it? The number of cars these days that have indicators that are fine at night when the light shows up, but are just a meagre tiny dot of light in daytime. It bugs me. They spend all this design effort on making the headlight and taillight clusters look good, but are actually pretty poor at visibility during the day.
I agree with you on the 'country' thing. I sometimes drive and see others running their parkers or low beam and I realise its a pretty good idea on the roads I am on. I do worry though that so many companies seem to think daytime running lights on cars in the city are a good thing. With so many lights, I think its easier to filter them out in a sea of light.
I also agree on the grey cars thing after having a kangaroo jump into the side of my grey/silver falcon wagon down at the snow a few years back. I think the colour blends in too easily there and at least white stands out. After that I also run the parkers to give the roos something to notice.

Better off fitting a roo shoo.

Lived in a company caravan for three years whilst doing geological surveys in Namibia in the 70's.
Grew to loathe the things with a passion. That "rig" above. Why? Okay I understand the commitment, the wide open road etc. For a tiny fraction of the price you could purchase a boat which has the potential to take you wherever you'd like to go for a fraction of the cost.

Time for ADR to require the hazard lights to flash and the horn to blast whenever you exceed the speed limit.
Make it a lot easier for pedestrians. You're patiently waiting for a gap to cross in 60kph traffic. One appears and, as well as having to break into a sprint to get across, you get the dirty look because you impeded a driver who's closing that gap doing 75.
Never considered boating cheap. So how much for a boat I can live in and go anywhere I want (Going around Oz next year)? I could do with saving money.

I paid $6k for Arion. She is not everyone's cup of tea but is very seaworthy. Not much to be spent to take her over to Fiji which I did with her sister.

Dangerous when the sun is behind you.
Maybe we should go back to the old days where you had to slide the glass door open on your head light compartment and light the candle.![]()

Its funny hearing how the lights on cars today are dinky compared to the old days lol.
Back in your guys day, did you have lights on the front of your horse so you didnt hit each other, or did you have to be vigilant and actually have a proper look to see if something was coming? ![]()

I've lived on a similar boat for three weeks and I recon it's worse than camping lol.
Yeah buying a cheap and nasty bucket like that will cost more than you earn in maintenance just to keep it on the water let alone seaworthy to cross ocean.
Boats are the largest loss you can buy, continually have to throw money at them and if you dont there is no way you'd be game to actually go to OS locations.
Great if thats your passion and what you want to put every cent you earn into, but massively expensive over a 10 year period, then sell at a huge loss.
And, OMG, the old boat in the pic has a black hull?????? Must be a fashion statement![]()

Jokes aside, when I was a teenager, most cars you could get as a teenager made lots of noise and didn't go particularly fast. Now, kids on their P plates can get cars that can easily exceed the speed limit and do it comfortably.
Which means that your chances of coming across a driver with few years experience driving, doing speeds they are not so good at, is much higher.
I remember getting my first decent second hand car which was a VN commodore. The thing could easily get to the speed limit and be quiet doing it.
If you don't appreciate people having lights on when driving in the country, you haven't done much country driving. Driving for 8 hours and the other cars having headlights on makes things all that much safer.
Similarly, if you are the loser waiting at a roundabout to see if the person in the new car has their tiny 'spot' indicator on, you are a more patient person than me.
or you could be adventurous and cobble together one of these :

or hit up Guildford Grammar school - they have this one parked up on blocks under cover
I guesss, if your not paying attention to what you are doing you may need car lights to help you, or driving for 8hrs straight like you said which fatigue would affect your driving ability so some lights ahead might save you.
Maybe all cars should be fitted with flashing yellow light on the roof for those people and the older with poorer eye sight and reaction times. lol
Yeah Im being sarcastic,![]()
I think alot of modern cars now have permeant driving light on? Not sure, I know mine and the people around me in modern cars do.
