hi all
newbie winger here
just wondering if anyone has used the ss hg foils for winging
as i already have these for windfoiling and dont really want to go to the expense of buying whole new foils
using a hg 76 on a smik 150 ltr hybrid and a 6.2 ga cross wing
body weight currently at about 105 kgs
cheers ratz
I use the SS Infinity 84 for winging, slow but glides and pumps well. A mate has both the 84 and 76 and prefers 76 as it is quicker and turns well.
I am primarily using the i84 for wingfoiling. I don't know why people say they are so slow. I am a relative beginner at wingfoiling and don't have a problem keeping up with guys running different brand foils that are smaller. They may be faster over all, but when we're all out there together having fun, no one is really measuring speed.![]()
using the 48 rear stab or a 42 ?
I use the 48 rear stabilizer.... but may try the 42 at some point.
Be sure and go in the "b" position with the 48cm stab and either I84 or I99. I flailed for weeks before I figured out the proper positioning. The 42cm stab is better once you know how to fly the **** out of the 48. If you go to the 42 too soon, you may be hopping on the struggle bus. And mast forward on most boards. This gets you up quick and reduces the swing weight and helps with pitch control too. Send it!!!
I'm 92kg and use the i84 with a 90cm mast and 60xm fuse with the 42 stab and a 4.8m PPC wing on a 5'6'' (100L) smik wing board. I find this combo work from 13 - 22knots (above 22 feels like the wing is flapping too much). The 84 wing is great with its very low stall speed and is great for practicing transitions. I also have the i76 and have tried it a couple of times but is needs more board speed to get going and the leading edge and lift balance point is further forward (has to be positioned further back in the box).
I really would recommend the 84 min at your weight as the 76 is much harder to learn on if your over 85kg I think.

I started kite foiling on the SS Spaceskate wing and thought it felt slow as it was such a thick foil, changed to the SS Apollo wing and what a change. Winging on the Infinity 84 feels like this all over again, really can feel the drag with such a thick foil...
Agreed, its all about the stoke and the only reason I mentioned it was slow is because I think there are alot of benefits fron a quicker foil. Foils have developed alot over the past few years, unfortunately SS hover glide system has not kept up, believe the current infinity models such as the I99 and i84 came out in 2018. Correct me if Im wrong but SS have not introduced a new wing for the HG system since then and have not developed Wingding specific foil. The wings were developed for surf and sup. The infinity foils such as the i99 and i84 are low aspect foils whereas winging specifc foils are moving towards mid to high mid aspect.
Again, im talking about the affordable hover glide system, not the high end aka expensive, phantasm system.
cheers all for the advice
got out today on the 76,
it seems to need a fair bit of speed to get up on the foil but i managed a few nearly controlled flights.

I agree with you totally on Slingshots lack of new HG foils. I definitely wish they'd come out with something more advanced and slightly more high aspect, but then again, I am not concerned with speed. I'd love a foil that's similar to the i84 in sq. cm. but with a higher aspect.
The Phantasm is sweet, but I don't see myself going that direction for awhile yet, if at all. I get tons of enjoyment from my SS Hoverglide stuff. ![]()
I'm 90Kilos and used the i99 front wing and 48 stab to get started in the sport. I even used the Wizzard 125 as my board and was surprised at how well my windfoil set up worked. It took 4 sessions before I realized I wanted to quit Windfoiling and just Wing. The i99 worked beautifully for me.

pretty certain I saw a SS team rider with a high aspect HoverGlide wing on instagram, so I think we will see something eventually
Used the i84/42 with long fuse and 90cm mast combo for last 2 years and it works like a charm.
In the video both of us using the i84 (I was on the longer mast/red Takuma board)
There are a couple of new wings coming down the pipe for the HG set up including a new HA wing.
