What board is works for parawing 4m in say 20 knots, can you use a 5.0x24 wing board or do you kind of need a mid-length board? I guess you do a knee start so a board that you can balance for knee start might If you well powered do you really need a narrow long board?

Use whatever you have. 5 10 x 21 x 85l works for my 90kg. Longer and narrower will be easier to get up.
The consensus has landed on a mid length close in volume to your weight in kg(Neutral Vol). The more efficient (narrow) the board is at getting on plane the lower the wind range will be for pw.
If your fully powered you can go more negative in vol with a smaller board but the risk is there that the wind will drop, so it depends on how consistent your conditions are. For wing foiling I am a big fan of negative vol sinker boards. Even went as far as a one board quiver with my 48l Omen Flux for awhile. I weigh 88 kg for reference. For parawing I have been convinced that a neutral vol stable mid length is the ideal board. Parawings(atleast the BRM) just don't have the low end pump of a wing to get you on foil. You want a board that is stable enough to stand on without much support from a balance perspective so that you can quickly use a gust and swell to get on foil in the lighter wind conditions.
If you have a consistent 20kts,+ then a lot of this is less important as you will be right in the power sweet spot for a 4M and could go negative as long as the board is pretty stable. Actually find neg vol boards more stable in chop. My PW board is a 78l F One Mid length, it has been perfect for me so far with my 5.1 BRM for conditions with 15+ winds.
Absolutely will work and if the wind is less just go bigger foil. I started my parawing journey with a 2.9m and my wing board 48L but used a pump foil spitfire 1180. Board was way too small but the combo worked way better than expected. Going up in board size meant I could go down in foil size. With the inclusion of the 4m I have even more options. I thoroughly recommend big pump foil for learning with everything g else on the small side. But I'm sure other combinations work too and it'll depend on each individuals strengths.

Agree in general but there is a limit. If you cant get the board to the surface you will never get on foil. In 10-15 range of wind you really will have trouble with a PW having enough lift to get you to the surface even with a large pump foil.
With a neg vol board I have had success using the wing to get moving on my belly and then do a pop up. This helps get a smaller board going sooner
