What is best practice here?
- very light wind
- 6 m wing
- recommended PSI is 5 to 7
What works better for light wind pumping to get going? A bit of flex (keep at 5 Psi..) OR a firmer/harder leading edge (pump to 7 Psi)?
In light wind I'm pumping little more of recommended pressure, in higher wind - less.
I always pumped my wings 2psi over recommended. It certainly helps to have a stiffer wing in light air. The "sweet spot" of sail trim really makes a difference when pumping. As the psi lowers, the sweet spot disappears and the pumps don't scoop as much wind since it spills.
Simply try with a limper wing and see what happens for yourself.
I just got aluula wings and I pump those to the recommended pressure. They are next level stiff. I have gone down half a size, but the light wind pumping is better and I think I gained low end. This is due to them scooping wind better on account of them being stiffer, IMO.
Ensis video says less pressure in light winds. Guy who used loads of wings said some pump better at low pressure and others at high
