Kind of a weird question,
does anybody wear headphones/listen to music on the water?
If so, are there any good headphones for this?
Any specific waterproof phone case better over the other?
Get the Shokx swimpro.... They are great!
Have the same headphones, really nice! And work even better if you have Surf Ears in. The Surf System cases I have good experiences with. Although I am using my Garmin watch as source for quite some time now and I like it way better than a phone in a case.
Note: you can also put songs on the memory of these headphones, so you do not need to take anything else as source with you.
I've been using other Shokz headphones (Openrun) that worked quite well; they may not have had the OpenSwim model back then, or I just did not see it. Shokz seems to be quite conservative with their IP ratings, unlike many cheap headphones that promise IP7, but have clearly visible holes in the housing and then die after a couple of sessions.
Can you wear them under a helmet? Subjective I know depending on the helmets, but generally?
Yes. I wear them often under a WIP Wipper 2.0 helmet

I have areopex by aftershokz, (probably similar to open run), do you reckon that would work?
did your openruns ever die on you?
cheers

Seems to be the same thing - "OpenRun" is re-branding. I actually have the Aeropex. Never had a problem with them, but I only used them for speed announcements when speedsurfing. I crash more when winging so that would be a harder test, but I think they'd do fine. No obvious point where the water can get in.
What about these? IP68 rating. (Although I wonder how long it persists).

Sorry but is wrong with the dulcet tones of foil screaming, surfers telling you to %#*k off and flapping wing. You have to enjoy the moment ![]()

I reckon they might fall out when wet, and disappear to the bottom of the ocean..

Speed tracking app audio is hard to hear from a watch. Ditto for calls.

Probably not if you wear a hood and helmet with ear covers.

They are bone conducting, so you can still hear all that if you want ![]()
I use the Sony ones that are not bluetooth. They have 4G of storage. MP3 player kind of. They don't feel great with a wetsuit hood pushing in but fine without. Helmet keeps them on so no need for a leash. Easy to skip songs and adjust volume even with gloves. I like that I can leave my goddamn phone in the van. Only problem, in the streaming subscription music world we live in, it is hard to download music that I don't own on my computer. So I have to go back 10 years to my library of music files. Which has some gems in it for sure.

I have been using Jbl Clip5 for the past few years. Works great Bluetooth connectivity. If you have where to put it. Hooks on 2 my life vest. The benefits of the speaker is people can hear you.

Agree with Hilly here....enjoying the noise, or quite while out in the water is what makes it enjoyable. Plus singing your own bad songs to help with timing of moves.
Why would you want to take calls anyway.

I agree, most of the time I'm not using headphones, but it can add to the experience, especially when you're sending it downwind with some bangers playing ![]()
