Damn now that is some epic dinging!!

Riding right handers into a southerly with the wing trailing behind just as you have done in this vid is the dream for me.

The smik wing looks super stable, floats like a butterfly

This is really wonderful and something I aspire to. I've only been doing this for 8 months or so mostly on weekends. How long does it take for a moderately capable person to get to the level represented on the video? I'm just getting to the point where I can do a foiling jibe, but I am already a moderately good surfer and a beginner foil surfer.

Love the Vid Scott, I've watched it a number of times , its not getting old mate. Dream time for me, both the foil skills and the conditions. Also fantastic to read the stoke from the all the comments . A Great fun sport with a tremendous attitude by its participants has really been my experience.

@Scott I just got back from a session with a 2-3 ft groundswell and got a better appreciation for just how badass your video is. Thanks for sharing it.

Agree with everyones comments, great looking session! I also had a fun session in some waves and I had some trouble in a few situations, maybe you experienced it too:

Wind, side-onshore going into the rights. I was having a blast screaming down the righthanders into the wind (regular footer), but as I wanted to crank a roundhouse of these awesome reform wedges, I found myself trying to sort out the wing quite a bit, as the apparent wind would drop to near zero cranking turns at 15+ mph.

I need to sort out which hand to hold the wing and where. I was trying passing the wing behind my back and all sorts of weird stuff and ended up with some fantastically awkward fails. Felt like I was driving down the highway with my hood popping up at one point.

I ended up more often than not, foregoing the roundhouse, just high-lining it and tacking into the wind off the back/end of the wave. Gybing at the end was tricky due to apparent wind drop as well. Tacks felt crisp and amazing!

Depends on whether you consider being a former world champion windsurfer a transferable skill set ;)

I'm down in VA. With 55 hours of practice, 273 miles covered (according to Waterspeed), I'm gybing, tacking, and riding waves comfortably. I had foil surfed prone for at least a year before I picked up the wing. First wind sport for me.

Next up Boooosting!

55 hours and tacking. Not bad.

I'm at about 100 hours... no foiling or wind sports experience....Still can't tack. Gybes at 80% good side 20% bad side.

Crazy how some people progress so fast or there's lots of wind wings in garages collecting dust.

Previous foil skill was a massive bonus.

I am at about 300hrs and 2000km's and gybe both ways 100%, still only 30% for tacks.

Guys that are talented and progress quickly get bored quickly.
I'm in it for the long haul of slow progression.

Yeah for me the wing was initially just a way to get on foil when the waves were flat. Now I'm winging a lot more than prone foiling it seems. Didn't realize that I lived in such a great wind sports location with a long-standing and thriving windsurfing club.
Tacks just sort of suddenly clicked, although i don't try them nearly as much as gybes, as they aren't quite second nature yet. Biggest tip for me was to raise the wing to neutral and release my back hand before initiating the upwind transition. Also, switching from my f-one to BRM seems to have helped. I was getting nowhere with the Swing. Maybe I'be just got it more sorted now, but not sure. The swing would always get 'stuck' and not want to transition through the eye to the other point of sail. Using my free hand to push it over kinda helped, but made it complicated. BRM on the other hand has no issues.

Looking at dawn patrol, I've logged 25 miles prone foiling, so that definitely helped. Armstrong foils are also super easy to ride!
