Hi all,
I have a modest amount of windsurfing experience but have not sailed for quite a few kid filled years. I am moving to Canberra and looking to start wing foiling as something I can do with less gear and less time (and a new challenge). I will be in Melbourne for a few months first so have a chance to get gear here and some intial practice in the bay.
Is there anyone on here who wing foils in canberra, presumably on Lake Burley Griffith and if so do you have any advice in regards to gear / wind condiitons etc (I have not lived in Canberra before). Any general gear adivce also appreciated - I am ~80Kg, 54 and modestly fit, most recently - well in the somewhat distant past - would sail a 110l starboard carve.
Thanks in advance,
Paul
I used to sailboard on two lakes in Canberra when I lived there, Burley Griffin and the one next to the Hyperdome.
Winds on inland lakes are typically gusty, should be easier to handle on a wingding than anything else.
A 5m would be a good start and a bigger wing and maybe a 3m. 110 L board should be ok.
Some big car parks down there, if you find an empty one try using a skate board with a wing, great fun and useful to workout wing handling.
On snow could be fun.
If you sail in winter you will need a hood, booties, gloves and a 5/4.
Have fun.
There is a growing flock of dingers on LBG. Reach out on the FB Group page Canberra Wingsurfer.
Also some new and used gear available in Canberra.
