Hi Wing addicts,

in september I got totally hooked on this wind ding thing after decades of windsurfing. Learned the first flights on a f-one rocket air 6'6" (inflatable, 140l ) and changed down to a Kalama E2 5'0" (90l). My Challenge today is jibing; with some luck i get it round to toeside but most of the times i fall in after the hand change. At that Moment I have literally no balance on the roll axis.

What I found what helps in jibes is:
- try to be as fast as you dare before bearing away
- do the hand change early just after starting to go downwind
- initiate the horizontal rotation of the wing (umbrella position) by pushing the middle strut with you back hand towards the bow.
- do the hand change with your front hand directly above your hand
- after changing hands pull the wing with your new front hand to windward.

But what about the board - how can you manage to stay over your board with your weight in this critical phase? Is there somin?s who has solved this problem and can give some advice?

Best wishes and golden winds
from the isle of Fehmarn / Baltic Sea

practise, practise, practise, fall, fall, fall...

Only in the last week have I been able to gybe - maybe half of the time now. For me the key was watching another winger out they who was loose as spagetti and reminding myself to relax into it.

Toe-side I get 10-100m and then eventually fall. I am tempted to learn a foot change after the gybe, but on the other hand, I better just keep at it until I can be pretty comfortable toe-side. Certainly makes gybing back much easier! Then work on a foot change after that.

Some friends have recommended practising on a lake. Ocean swell makes it harder to get started...

Thanks a lot Carpet,

yeah - Spaghetti-Style - Man, I'm so far away from it e.g. from being loose with my feet. So I put foot switching and toeside riding on my next training plan ...until my legs are at least like tagliatelle..

Concentrating fully on the board hasn't help me really due to the balance thing i mentioned above. Maybe this advice from Tucker/MacKiteboarding/WingWednesday on YouTube (

) could help:

He sais, it's all about having constant pull on your back hand, even when you are dead downwind where you should pull the strut slightly down just before the hand change. This could give stability and sth to hold on during the turn. I'll try that next time.

This is a really good video with good angles - good Job, Tucker!

I would very much appreciate if we collected the best wing foil jibe tutorials here. I'll keep you in the loop and will tell what works for me.

Wing-Dingeling-Ding-Wing! ;-)

Here is another good vid - jibe with pre-exercises AND mistakes ex-windsurfers usually do.
