Just wondering if a 90cm windsurf fuse will work on a Fanatic Sky Wing 95L ? It's a Fanatic 3.0 fuse. I know it will be stiff, extra stable, not turny or very manoeuvrable, but just want to know if it will work ? I tried it on a Naish 110L Hover yesterday and even with the foil mast all the way back in the foil box plus 3cm, as I used the two holes in my base plate that I drilled for this reason ( see photo) , I still had far too much lift with 1750 front wing (Aero HA). Wind was 15 - 20 kts and was using 5m wind wing. So obviously this foil wing will not work on this board, don't know about smaller foil wings but I'm guessing probably not either, but was wondering if a long 90cm fuse might work on other size or brand wing boards?
It was my first session on a loan board and if not for the the long fuse I would have been up on the foil.

Can you flatten the tail angle for less lift?

If this were 2020 or 2021 I'd say yes try shimming. But right now nearing 2024 there is so much 2nd hand gear out there that it's easier to get the right gear i.e. minimum a wingfoil fuse (assuming you can access the 2nd hand gear market?) A windfoil fuse will have too long a section in front of the mast. I've been there and tried that and you will drastically narrow the window of options.

The drilling of extra holes in the mast plate.. you could end up weakening the plate.

Sorry if I come across as harsh/direct. If these are your first sessions (?) I'd recommend starting with the right gear. It increases your learning and enjoyment so much.

And with the right fuse the 1750 will work on the 110L . I don't think going to a 95L board will solve this. Depending on your weight the 110L would also be better for learning. I'd strongly recommend getting the right fuse and try again

Tried it. Didn't work. I'm gonna need the right size fuse.

Depends more on the foil and the board you are using, and not so much if it's a wind- or wingfoiling fuselage. I'd say a bigger board (like your 110 L) could work well, depending on the foil and how it has been set up.

I have a couple of success stories with guys using their windsurf foil boards for learning winging. They are using 2100 cm2 foils, 90 cm fuselages. It's super easy to learn with a longer fuselage.

4th day winging, 120 L board:

And another guy with a similar 105 L board, also 2100 cm2 foil, at 04:12

On a smaller board you would definitely be better off with a shorter fuselage, but there's not much point to hurry to a smaller board too soon.

Go for it. If you feel you need to stand too far forward, try to flatten the tail as suggested above.

You probably noticed the winDfoil boards have the (tuttle) mast at the far back of the board

Nope. These boards have tracks, and the box is not located too far back as it would be on some other windfoil boards, and they do not mount the foil at the end of the box either, more in the middle of the box. Just 22 cm longer than the Naish 110L Hover. So I'd say it all comes back to a particular foil and how it's set up.

Hi. I've got neilpryde wind (81 cm) and wing (71 cm) fuselages. I've winged well with the long fuse and a multipurpose board. However I didn't fly well because overlift when I used the same fuselage and foil in a wing specific board. It has the foil tracks further forward and less overall length. As soon as I changed to the shorter fuselage keeping the same board and wing, flight became immediately calm. No stability problems with shorter fuselage.

Here are the specs for the fanatic 3.0 fuselage which say that the 78cm is for wing. Better follow the specs than dig a deeper hole for yourself. Happy learning!

Going on comments so far it seems it is doable sometimes to use windsurf fuse on wing foil board for winging, but whether it will comfortably work depends on the board, ie size of board and location of foil box and no doubt size of windsurf fuse, some being shorter that others, and any shimming used. I'm not stating the above as fact, but this is basically how I'm seeing it. Sound like it's a matter of try it , play around with things until everything works , and if no luck buy a shorter fuse. Think I'll go with latter.

That looks pretty manoeuvrable for a 120L board. That gear combo definitely does make it easy. I like it.
