Beginner 85kg moving down to 88l Armstrong wing board. Can pump 95l fanatic OK in light winds, wing straight lines but finding it hard to unwind 40 years of windsurfing muscle memory and get the gybes in.
Any advice on where to start with 1550 V2 mast, middle of track?

Don't take my post as gospel, since I am beginner wing foiler myself, but all of the advice I've seen says to put the mast in the middle for the initial session(s) and then move it up and down, once you realise whether you need more lift, or less.

I dropped down to a 99l FG board (at 95-100kg) using a 1550v2 and started at 5 (back of mast plate at 5). I've gone as far forward as 7 but that didn't work for me. I'm using it now around 5.5 to 6. Regardless of where i've been between 5-7 on the track my front feet have lined up with the foot strap inserts.

I felt it pretty quickly if it's balanced or not when you're up on foil - i did 2 laps at 7 and came back in and went back to 6 :-) Just got to get out there and try at different settings.

I'm winging the 99 l board. I run the 2400/195 at 9 and the 1250 at 8. I find a better popup, wave riding feels better balanced, and jibes are faster. I do not have any footstraps.

Your starting point kind of depends on your shimming as well? I'm on -1 with the 195 tail for all HS and HA wings and prettt much sit on 6 - and move slightly forward or back depending on swell size.
plus I might adjust slightly for front wing size as well.

on a bigger board like yours maybe start at 6.5 / 7.
again shimming will also be a factor.

b but yeh find your comfortable middle placement for "normal" conditions then work from there. Only experimentation will give you that.

Interesting, but might be turning into where should my back foot be? I started 1550v2 at 5, better at 4, moved back foot forward and felt even better (and later noticed in a photo it has been, and still is a bit, behind mast). So should back foot be over mast?

Hi, I am using the HS 1850. My back foot is for off foil pumping on the mast and on foil slightly backwards at the back edge of the mast. It works fine!
