as someone who doesnt Para, its a Yes from me!
Ya can't beat'em, ya may as well join'em. ![]()
You could see that trend on the StandUp Zone forum - the wing foiling topic was on fire for years. Then the equipment started getting "mature" and the posts tailed off.
Now you can't even log on (did they go defunct???)

I think ownership of Stand Up Zone exchanged hands and the new owner tried to update the forum. When they did, the interface went nuts (at least for me) and I wasn't able to use it anymore. Loved the SUP conversations there.
But the Para topics are keeping the wing forum alive.
Yes but where i live no one does para...zero in about 60..we don't have the conditions I guess
So for me it's irrelevant and although I appreciate it's frothing, for me it personally it dilutes the value of the wing page as most posts are para.
I know Gav on YouTube also said his biggest views are by far on para. But as I said...winging in waves here and no para.
Actually there is no need for a Parawing sub forum, in the past 48 hours there has only been one wing post but six Parawing posts. So just rename this forum from wing to Parawing, we don't mind the wingers occasionally posting here.
might as well add a new PW section as it seems like 70-80% of posts are PW related nowadays anyways, doesnt seem like a big deal to have a winging and a PW section separate

Disagree. Less is more. Happy to see wing posts as well as wang posts.

as said - winging in waves here and no para.
Also a lot of blasting on chop / flat / swell
What others (inc pros) can do, in other (better suited) locations for Para is pretty irrelevant to that....But i fully admit its cool / impressive!
PS
like all the media on Downwinding - maybe massive (is it?) in (certain places in) Oz and Hawaii and other places...dunno....but come to the UK and count the DW numbers vs Winging. Id guess less than 1%...and in my locale its 0%.
I find it hard to believe that the prawingers are offended by wading through wing/other foil content. For me, the wing page is just a "general foiling" page. I, along with others I'm sure, come here for foil reviews, board reviews, impressions annd discussions across sports. So much gear and technique stuff crosses between these categories it makes no sense to have separate pages. There's a reason those other subs(SUP, Prone) are ghost towns.
and for the record, I don't para but I still want to hear from people that do, esp in regard to downwind, boards, reviews, etc. it's all just foiling.

This! I actually find it a little awkward having to also open the SUP/Foiling section to make sure I've covered everything. I'd rather have all foiling content in one section as I'd say a fair chunk of us are multi disciplined and even if not board/foils etc are often shared between them. Even combined foiling is still a pretty small/niche community.
It would be nice to have a separate parawing section. Since I parawingfoil, I skeep all the wingfoil or kitefoil stuff. I've lost all the awareness for other disciplines except for pumpfoiling.
Winging is winging. Some people use a parawing and some people use a LEI wing. Its still winging with common foil and board requirements across the sub categories of DW, freestyle, mowing the lawn and wave riding. It would be dumb that a parawinger might post a foil or board review in a parawinging forum category and the wingers would be none the wiser of this possibly valuable review.
The winging forum has become the default for almost all foiling related discussion anyway except wind foiling and kite foiling.
Just leave it as it is for the love of god. ![]()
My vote is for a parawing section. Technically quite a different power mechanism, things like line length, stowing, bridles aren't relatable to winging. Board design is diverging rapidly too.
I'm quite surprised at the resistance. Coming from windsurfing where there's 12 sub-forums I like not having to wade through a heap of stuff that doesn't interest me. There is also the "Active Topics" option to keep informed across multiple forums. We all have different perspectives. Bygones..
Not exactly like we're drowning in posts from either sub-category to make it necessary IMO. It's never really occurred to me to be a huge bother to scroll past a few posts that don't pique my interest, but I give the forum a frequent peek- suppose it might be a bigger thing if I were offline/less consistent. I think Anyboard makes a really good point though- there's a lot to be learned in the crossover between the 2 in foils, boards, conditions, locations, technique, reading bumps, wave riding. Think it holds true in theory and application. It's surprised me how much my winging has benefitted/improved from what I've learned parawinging.
