Mikey,
Use a full disposable glove to apply.
Cut finger from disposable glove and only use one finger to apply.
Use a stiff brush and apply on threads (some packets of Tefgel come with the brush).
Hope this helps.
Yup, paint thinner, gasoline, probably even WD40 takes it right off.
Doesn't matter how hard you try not to, you're going to get some on you![]()
Carbon and stainless or titanium negates the use of this horrible substance. Sand and tefgel are a great combo ![]()
I wouldn't apply anything with Teflon using bare skin, it's very nasty stuff.
I've switched to a lanolin based product instead that is food safe. Up side is it works much better for keeping bolts tight

I still think grantmac has a point. They stopped using PFOA in Teflon a decade ago but I think Teflon still includes some similar classes of chemicals. I talked to some experts about it and found that toxicology studies are really hard to do/build evidence for/even to get permission to conduct. So hard to rely on.
So I have also been using pure lanolin on my Axis gear and it has been working great and quite easy to use. And I can lick my fingers clean if I feel like it.
I'm still using plumbers tape, after 6 years foiling, I'm assuming teflon, the white one, no issues with stickiness and sand, just unscrewed an axis after being together for 6 months, came apart smoothly and easily, no issue of screws rattling loose, no idea why anyone would use any kind of paste, the mix with sand makes a lovely abrasive!
Look up cancer cases/settlements and PFOA, then look at the history of lead in fuels.
Not saying tefgel is gonna make your fingers rot but there are options which have no risk and honestly work better.

Gunna give this a go.

Do you wrap threads then coat with anything? how long do you leave between strip downs? I tend to back of bolts and flush with tap water after every use. Is this overkill?

Just wrap with about 3 layers tape, never thought about how long between strip downs. As I said I just stripped down my axis which was assembled around the 12th September after getting back from a holiday, came apart easy as.
Love the stuff. but what solvent cleans it up off my fingers etc?
cheers.
Ok. Have cleaned the Tefgel off all the bolts and cleaned out all the threads with white spirit and then detergent. Applied plumber tape to all the bolts. A very clean n tidy end result. Will see how it goes. Tnx pumpnjump for the tip.
