I'm looking at a used board for my partner, around 65-75l.
My own board has a flat tail, and it's so much easier to get foiling than my older board with bottom tail kick. A lot of brands are going over to the flat bottomed tail, rather than tail kick.
One of the boards I'm looking at is an AK Phazer V2 (5'3). Has anyone used these boards, and do they get going easily? I've noticed a tail kick, which worries me.
The other board I'm looking at is a JP Xwinger 75l . This is much shorter, but does have a flat tail with no tailkick. Has anyone used these, are they too short (4'5) for an early intermediate?
I have the AK5.8(90l) and tried lots of boards, and the Phazer is still one of the quickest if not THE quickest board I tried, including straight tails like the Fanatics.
If my Phazers dies its at the top of the list for a new 90l board.
IMO the tail isnt a very gradually bending back one, but a rather steep and sharp conerner so the water doesnt wrap arounds it, and the overall rocker is really fast.
Edit:I tried the 5.0 fromJP and didnt like the board, imo too thick and corky. The Cabrinha Code has a way better balanaced feel in similar sizes.
btw, i,m weightwise hoovering between the 102-93kg and use mid andhigh aspect foils on it. level: joe average.
Thanks Jeroen, I've gone for the AK.
Yeah, the kicktail on my older board isn't sharp and the angle is fairly small. The difference is massive though - I need a foil size bigger almost to get it going. It feels like I've got weed on the foil when comparing the two.
