I am on a Caribbean windsurf vacation and want to do some foiling. I brought my own Phantasm in the expectation I could use the surfcenters board. The closest thing to a foil board they have is a Tabou Magic Carpet. My first attempt today was not a success. Has anybody experience with this board? Advice or suggestions to mast positions etc. are welcome !or should I just stick to fin windsurfing ?

I learned on a 125L Slingshot Wizard and it was great so I expect the Tabou would be good too. I would slide the foil as far forwards in the track as possible and go for it. Make sure you have a leash or that board will be gone in a flash. Have fun!

Hey, when you say not a success, can you be more specific. Learning on a large board can be an advantage. Depending on wind speed, size of your wing and front foil, you should find it pretty easy to pump the foil and wing at a good pace, if your front foil has enough surface area for the conditions you should lift up on foil pretty easily. The weight of the board and the large flat bottomed surface will hold you back some, but then you have all that stability.

Should have been more specific:I am not a beginner. I usually ride Airbolt 120 and Slingshot Phantasm PTM926 and PTM899.
I have not managed to find a balanced setup on this Tabou board, and I wonder if it is possible at all. The board is more like a big wingboard with mast track..!

When you say balanced, I'm not sure what you mean. When the mast plate is close to the board's balance point the board sits flat in the water when you are standing on it and doesnt tip nose or tail too much, or do you mean riding - You may well find the answer to your question lies in using a negative shim about 2mm at the fat end which will make the board seemingly ride nose up but in fact will give your foil more glide and stability at speed - there are quite a few videos about shimming windsurf foil boards and the same concept applies but you just shim the mast plate and not the tuttle box - does that help?
