I am heading to the Sunshine Coast this week staying in Coolum was looking for wing spots for beginner would lake Weyba be my best option what winds and locations would people recommend
thx
CottonTree river mouth, down wind runs along the coast, ins and outs anywhere along the beaches, Noosa river mouth, Caloundra river. Basically anywhere.... on the sunny coast, we are wing-foil heaven up here.
Lake Cootheraba is a better option than Weyba but a bit further to drive, works on SE and NE. Cotton Tree on NE, Golden Beach on the top of the tide SE, E and NE, Mooloolaba spit NE and E.
Paul,
Yes Lake Weba is good, particularly if you are learning
NE & SE winds are best westerlies
Bring some boots as you have to wade out a fair way
PM if you would like some more details

Hello Paul...
U R ahead of me still trying to write kite foiling story b4 windwing but the focus of the following is good for you too...
I put this together back in 2012 for kiting.. it covers 4 aspects (Tick box to activate). Bottom Left tick for satellite view. Works best on bigger display but is good for phones too.
1). Sites 2). Down winders 3). Shops & Repair places 4). No go zones (relevant for downwinders = 98% SLSC flags)..
Starts North Hervey Bay down to NSW boarder. = approx 400 kms.
Each site has comments (Description, hazards, wind direction etc)

Should hit Weyba for you![]()
Cheers

I have a grab bag of kit now - when I foil Weyba I know a lot of it is shallow to avoid getting snagged / influenced I stay with 72cms mast and wing with span of 75cms or less.
The point about Lake Cootharaba is well made. Nice crew there too mostly Wind Surfers
This probably be useful too.. holfuy.com/en/weather/569
On coast from Weyba.. (one for Cootharaba, Cotton Tree, etc use search function in app)
(If anyone wants to add anything - pm me )

Just got back from the Sunshine Coast where we spent many days winging on both Weyba and Cootharaba. Both lakes were really good for progressing our Wing Dinging skills. We spent more time on Weyba and really enjoyed the place. Great rigging area and friendly crew of Wingers, Windsurfers and Kiters. You have to walk out about 100m, (booties were important) but once out there, the depth was fine for foiling all through the middle of the lake, with a couple of shallower spots that the locals can point out to you. We enjoyed the SE's the most, as the wind was more consistent, but had some really good sessions on N, NW and NE as well.
Cootharaba is bigger and was also a good spot for learning.
Enjoy!
