Has anyone else ever experienced a sore back form Wing Foiling, or is it just me - a beginner that needs to learn the correct technique, I would really appreciate it if anyone has any tips or suggestions please, I was in 10 to 20 knots wind gust yesterday and it wore me out:-(
Yeah heaps, almost had trouble moving after a couple sessions in a row when I started out! It got better over time for me. Really tensioning your abs (core?) during riding helps a lot! For me it was / is a core stability problem, tensioning the abs kinda balances the forces on the back if you get my meaning?
Yeah, I definitely felt sore in my first couple of goes. I'm 10 sessions into it now and can get up and ride comfortably so I have started wearing a Forward Wip harness belt with an Ozone harness line. It's made a big difference to my longevity on the water. I try not to stay hooked in all the time as I took this sport up for strength and fitness reasons as well as fun. But when the ache starts up, it's nice to be able to give the arms a rest.
Yup, been there too. Muscles will develop over time, but as mentioned by others, a strong core is key. So focus on that in training. Otherwise you might end up hurting your back more seriously down the line..

Yes everyone guys, I forgot to engage my core which I new I should have but didn't (to busy fighting against the wind trying not being blown out to sea:-)
For sure core strength but also watch your stance. Push your hips forward so head, shoulders, hips and feet are aligned and the line is at right angles to the board (as opposed to poo stance). Then hold the wing lightly with straight arms and let it float - don't muscle it. Once it all clicks there isn't much effort and body tension required when up on foil.
I'm currently nursing a pretty messed up
back And hip strain from winging on right side (I'm natural stance so back foot). . That coupled with a prone session that kicked it over.

common beginner mistake is letting the wing pull you, and bend you over at the waist. Stop that, and issue will go away. Easy to recognize this error by the butt out sailing style.
