I'm about 7 months into winging, from windfoiling. Most of my winging is in lighter winds, maybe 9-17 knots. I initially bought a 6 meter slick, but at 85 kg.and old, had trouble in lighter winds, so got a 7 meter CWC f one. For me, this has been a great wing, amazing low end and I'm fairly comfortable using it with gusts to 18 knots or so. Subsequently got a 5 meter strike V2, which I like well enough, but ultimately doesn't give me much useful range above the 7.0. So, wondering if anyone has suggestions for a wing to use in higher winds?
I have the 7m cwc too and it does have a very large range. I've ridden it up to almost 20 knots. That said I would much prefer to ride a more nimble and fun smaller sail in those conditions. You should be able to use your 5m from the mid teens into the low 20s, and (IMHO) it's going to be a much more fun sail for that range than the cwc. i then switch to a 4 or 3.5 at around 20 knots. I'm usually riding a 7/5/3.5 quiver these days (I have an old 4m that I sub in sometimes too) with the goal of riding the smallest sail that the conditions will allow. If you were after a 2 sail quiver, a 6/4 or 5/3.5 would offer more range than the 7/5, but it would sacrifice your low end. A 7/4.5 might also work but you would have to stretch the wind range a bit on both sails.
in short - try to transition to the 5m earlier. It probably won't extend the wind range more than 4-5 knots but it will optimize your riding in the overlapped range.
