Today I used a naish 1240 HA front wing instead of my usual 1800. I thought it was really nice. Easy to control, easy to use, much quicker and maybe even reduced the load on my arms a bit.
I used the same stabiliser as that comes with the Naish 1800 kit - the 320
So my question is: what did I miss by not changing the stabiliser to a smaller size? Is turning the only thiny I'm missing out on or is there also potentially a lift/balance issue?
I'm on the Naish 1040HA almost all the time. I use it with the 280 rear stab rather than the 220. I find it pumps better.
An stabilizer stabilizes your foil but also adding drag while doing that.An bigger stab makes your kit more stable in a straight line but ads more drag.When you would use an smaller stab the set would have less drag so is faster and feels more slippery, and will be easier to turn. Its is really depending of your level if you like that or not.

I have the same foils. Definitely top speed and carving go up using the 280 vs 320, very noticeably. I think the 280HA is perfectly married w the 1800HA and 1240HA. When I took the 220HA out w the 1240HA, it works, it's faster but..I had to be more attentive which kept me from putting the petal all the way down.
The 280HA also works with the 1040HA, which I like that combo in the waves, if wind isn't really strong, otherwise the 220HA is perfectly fitted.
But I will say as an Average Joe, I think a 240HA would be better, if they had one. With the 220HA you really have to be super light on pump or you feel it wash thru water on back leg kick. The fastest I've gone is w the 1040HA & 220HA on the 80cm fuse, was able to really push it, but still the same feeling of too small on a jump where you really pop the tail to go high vs long jumps where it was fine.

PS-Still have a 320 but I've chopped it, looks like their MA foils now. ?? it turns great. However, it's still not as fast as the 280 due to wider chord and thicker camber in foil shape.
