I was lucky enough to get my first session on the 5.2 SuperWing X today!
First impressions after using the wing:
+ Stability. I didn't notice any fluttering at all during the entire session, even when tacking. The x-ply canopy is very taught and the 6 battens no doubt contribute to it's stability.
+ Flies upwind. The wing maintains power even when going almost directly into the wind. I was amazed at how much ground I could gain in a single tack.
+ Light weight. I think some of us have been concerned that the x-ply material may add significant weight to the wing. The SuperWing X actually felt lighter compared to the previous model's same size (5.2).
+ Good visibility. Since the entire canopy is x-ply, you have decent visibility through the whole wing.
+ Power. Feels slightly more powerful than the previous model. I would need to use it more to know for sure though.
+ Upgraded handles. The handles are now wrapped in a more rigid canvas material which adds stiffness and durability.
- No middle handle. The only downside to the wing I've noticed so far is the lack of a middle handle. Not a big deal in my case since I didn't use the middle handle much on the previous model but still would have been nice to have.
- No spot for pump on the wing bag. There is now no place to attach the pump onto the wing bag. Not sure why they removed this, maybe because the new bag is a different shape... slightly annoying as it was nice to always keep the pump and wing together.
Overall a massive improvement from the previous generation. Can't wait to have more sessions on this wing ![]()
