I have recently started my wing foiling journey, and after 4 sessions I am just starting to foil (not very gracefully at this point!). The shop I went to buy my gear put me on a Axis 1010 with a 460 rear wing. They assure me it would be fine for me. I am 70kg, going out in 12-25 knots, but more likely 15-20 knots. Since they seem to know their stuff I went along with it. From what I have read this setup might be a bit too advanced/fast for me, would be better off getting a second rear wing like the 440? Would that make any difference and help with my progression? Cheers.

It's not a case of being too fast thats not the 1010 , it's lower aspect super lifty so in that strength wind you are breaching. Yes the 460 will add to that lift so you want smaller tail indeed more like the original 420 with turned up tips. The higher aspect wings go faster yes but can maintain a higher speed without the constant breaching. I only ever use the 1010 in super light winds , it would be a serious handful in 20 knots regardless of what tail you put on it plus you are a light weight. The 1010 is a great wing to learn on though.

I am 76kg, started with black series HPS and now 2 Smaller BCs. Initially the 370 rear wing as used by friends was the best all round, I quickly went to the 340 but now the 350 progressive for everything. The 350 progressive almost feels like no drag compared to the others, so far no down sides for Windwing or kitefoiling.

You might want to consider a Progressive 425 rear . I have always tried to balance the front and rear wings ie large front / larger rear, if you reduce the front wing then use a smaller rear as well. Never liked the large front / tiny rear combo, makes my board ride too nose down

Thanks for your input, looking into getting a second rear wing.

Rear wing won't make a noticeable difference at your level.

I have a 380 speed and a 440 original deep rear wing and the difference is minor

so I trimmed my 440 down to a 380 and it made it 10% more loose
