I know this is the wing section, however there is no prone foil section so I figured I would try here. I expect there are prone guys on here.
I am new to foiling but lifetime surfer. I just bought a new Suns Hyper Surf 5'3" with a NP Glide 70 foil. I have a full deck grip to put on and am not 100% sure about the position. So this is what I am thinking. I have bolted the foil on in the middle of the tracks and measured from the centre of the front wing chord back to the mast. Then put a mark on the bottom of the board the same distance in front of the mast. Then measured from the mark to the tail end of the board and transferred that measurement to the deck. So now I have a reference point on the deck for the centre of the front wing. This is because I have learned from an instructional video that when surfing you basically straddle the front wing. So your feet would then be equal distance either side of the wing centre mark. I then measured my shoulder width stance and marked that on the deck straddling the front wing equally. This would have my back foot above the back half of the mast. Which happens to be about 25mm behind centre of the rows of foot strap holes. The front foot however would be about 40mm behind the back of the rows of front foot strap holes. I am allowing 470mm for my stance width between the centres of my feet. Does that all make sense? Does it sound right? Or have I got it wrong?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers, Ken.

For me, after 6years of prone foiling g, if I'm wearing boots and there's full deck traction. I don't stand a chance. My failure rate goes from 5% to 90%. That front foot catches and I just cant get my foot where it goes. Bigger back traction is ok but I like to keep the front fairly compact for this reason. Set up your board on the grass and stand on it in what feels like a comfortable stance. It's not like surfing where your back foot is on the tail kick(if there is a tail kick on the traction cut it off) it's farther forward like on the front half of the tail of usually. Get an approximation of where your front foot goes with a comfortable stance, mark it with a marker and give yourself 3 inches on all sides for wiggle room and mark that. This will be a weird shaped blob of traction which is what you want. Cut the traction to that shape and put it down.

I've ripped off the front traction on every prone board that came with it. The one exception is my current board, an Armstrong Wing Surf that has so much dish and raised rails I can stomp into position and then the pad itself is slippery enough I can foot wiggle.

Some people like a raised pad on the center rear to know where the mast is etc. But I find it a distraction. Tail kick is also unnecessary as unless you are suicidal or using straps, the last thing you want to do is take a step back and push your tail through the lip. I like wax for traction with booties, and for seeing where my front foot is. A thin rear pad without a tail kick is my preference.

Try posting in the Standup foil section of this forum for more prone specific info.
