Curious to hear people's thoughts on "progression boards" and your suggestions, so not the 130-140L board that you want for your first couple of sessions, but the board you'll wanna have afterwards. I'm 75kg so something in the 80-90L range.

I'm decent at prone foiling and I've done about 7-8 sessions winging now (with other people's big boards) and able to wing in a straight line, starting to practice jibes now.

So far I've got these on my radar, to see if I can find a good deal (in Europe):
F-One Rocket wing 5'5 (85L)
Fanatic Sky Wing 5'0 (75L) or 5'4 (95L)

Any others I should consider and thoughts?

I am 68kg an just got the Slingshot Wingcraft 75l. It's hard to stay on the board when there is no wind at all, but as soon as there is any power in the wing it's no problem at all. As the wingcraft pumps on foil super easy, I need a lot less wind to get going. Now I finaly understand how people can foil in sub 10knt.

if I was going to buy a production wing-board right now I'd probably look at the S26 Naish - 75, 85 or 95 litre.
Otherwise support a local custom shaper and get something built.
In West Oz most people are using Sunova, SMIK, One, PPC, Amos and Naish - some of these brands may be harder to get in your part of the world. Ensure the board you pick suits the foil you intend to ride.
Fanatic boxes are right at the tail and F-one track boxes are more forward. Every foil has a slightly different balance point.
Mixing brands can cause issues.

I stepped down to the Naish Hover 95ltr, I'm 80kgs. I could probably go smaller if I was winging flat water but here on the Bay it's a real washing machine when it's blowing and would be a struggle to ge going on something smaller in the large chop.
A mate tried my board, he's 95 kg and really struggled but did get going in the end but said he wouldn't choose it as his regular ride, just too hard to get going. He rides a 110ltr board so maybe 15ltrs over body weight is a good figure to work with for us mere mortals.

Wark-boards is close to the Alps. He is an amazing shaper, who also shaps the prototypes for indiana.
I use the armstrong cf2400 an its totaly fine with the Wingcraft. The hs1250 is on order.

I'm really happy with my Appletree Wingboard 70L. Amazing construction and finish. Using with Armstrong & Cloud9 and works great. Available in many sizes: appletreesurfboards.com/product/appleslice-wing-foil-board/#stock-or-custom

Just moved down from my beginner board 6'4"x28x4"thick) I'm 63kg. Went to a 5'2"x26x5" self shape (hence the lack of volume numbers.) it was life changing. Definitely put in your time on your beginner big board but when you switch it's a blast.

Really interested in the 70L Appletree board. Looks nice! How do you find the pumping and how much do you weigh, please?

Shape works great to pump up, it's really light too at around 5.4KG. I'm 75KG without gear

Regarding a progression board i was/am in the same situation like you, learned on an 7'11, 130 liter, 4in1 board (Mojo custom, shape like F-One Papenoo) and now changed to a Mojo Custom 5'8, 105 liters. I'm 93 kg nacked and i think the rule +10 liter above bodyweight is quite spot on if you use the board on gusty lightwind sweetwater spots like i do.
After some sessions I think i could have gone to 5'6 - 5'7 and 100 - 103 liters, but below that slogging and standing up in wind holes get's difficult (for me).
Regarding the shape i like the clean shaped boards better, reduced bevels and kicktail and hard edges, like the Fanatic 5'4 or the Indiana boards. My board pumps and releases really well and I never got stuck in touchdowns with my 5'8 so i don't see the advantages of heavily beveled boards like the Quatro Wing Drifter. Also i think extensive bevels and kicktails do make a board unstable when kneeling and starting by reducing area and rail volume (and may lead to demand a bigger board for equal stability to a "clean" shape)

If you're Europe based and want to go custom, maybe you like to take a look at the Mojo Customs from Hungary, they have a new T-Bird Wingboard line, whereas their routes lie in building windsurf boards, like Flikka.
Regarding availability Mojo needed 7 weeks from ordering to delivery (Hungary to Germany).
Since they do CAD shaping you can order any size and volume from them.
Weightwise a 105 in light carbon sandwich (not the lightest but tough windsurf technology) comes with 6,8 kg, mine has an undestroyable Ultra HD layup and weighs 7,6 kg, 30 cm long foilboxes included, so much room for positioning your foil.
For you a 85 liter board board should come in around 6 kg.

If you are in Europe we have a heap of foil and wing boards heading that way so hit up one of the ONE importers www.oneoceansports.com/contact

Best to contact the Germany or France guys as they have good stock about to hit the water and these are the new wing boards included which are super light and crazy strong. www.oneoceansports.com/new-page From the sounds of the boards you are looking at I would say the 5 x 26 x 90L will be perfect, this board in Full carbon full PVC molded sandwich weighs approx 5.6-5.8kg and in non carbon PVC sandwich weighs approx 6.2-6.4kg

Both the France and Germany crew will get stock about the same time depending on shipping times but these will be the first ONE wing boards in Europe!!
