Arbitrage is found with quite a few brands. It's a strange thing when everything is paired against USD.
Slingshot gear is cheaper to buy from Europe and ship to Aus - time2wing.com/ Then again, if you're in Europe, why bother with anything other than the French or other Euro brands ?

Lots of different things can cause lots of different pricing between the country's so it's never black and white. Some brands run through more hands in different areas which always can change the cost quite a lot.
Australia is pretty lucky from what i have seen around the world as prices here do seem pretty good in some areas. I know for myself as the owner of ONE we really mostly sell directly these days which has allowed our pricing to be better than most for the high quality we put out.

Not every brand can go direct everywhere so if another person comes into the chain and takes some risk they have to be rewarded for this risk with some margin and the price has to go up. This is the same for us as there is no way I could do what i do here in Australia everywhere so we need great importers and these guys take a risk when buying our boards and have to have a margin for this same in 99% business is guess.

In the UK we have an importer and i bet our boards are probably similarly priced to many others. As i say so many different things go into determining the pricing and I don't think anyone anywhere is getting super-rich with crazy margins.

Maybe another thing in Australia is it does have a few brands like myself who do go direct and this forces the prices to stay pretty fair across the board, we sell a fully molded PVC sandwich wing board for between $1499-$1799www.oneoceansportsaustralia.com/shop/wind-wing-boards and these are lighter and stronger than most top-end full carbon boards so if someone selling a board for $2500 or more it needs to be something pretty special here in Aus. But as i say we are brand owners playing importer going direct so we take out the shop margin and some.

Maybe it just means you need to do a yearly trip down under!!

Or... just to neighbour countries who also have brands selling direct ;-)

That is an option, but for the "regular" global sold brands like Fanatic the price difference between the regions is still pretty big.
For my Skywing 5.8 2022 I paid 1500,- euro / 2375 aus dollars compared to the 1849 it costs by surf FX.
I guess the differences is mainly taxes. The VAT is here 21% on pretty much everything except water and electra.
I can complain about it...but buy it anyway so don,t try to think about it too much and swallow it. In the end, it's just luxury.

My wife and I both mountain bike and I like nice bikes! 2y ago we went to Canada and when saw the prices i the shops there I was shocked. I calculated that when we want new bikes in a year or 2 around the 5K euro each we can buy them here, or fly to Canada with 2 bike boxes, buy the same bikes and ride them a 5 days at Whistler bike park (one of the best places in the world for MTB imo) for approx the same amount of money

@Northy, In the past we bought wetsuits, surfboards etc in the UK because it was rather cheap at your side of the pond with a lot more choice compared to the netherlands.

I remember in the early kiting days (uk)I used to buy direct from Europe as could save at least a 1/3. I think you need to build a good rapport with local dealer and work out a good discount.
or buy last years kit. frustring I know, I would love an Armstrong foil but am not going to pay ?2200! AUD $4127.

Well in AU we actually pay a premium for some gear such as Fone which is ridiculous. We're closer to China too....

Doesn't the proximity of Europe mean the crossing of a boarder for a weekend and buying gear/collecting isn't impossible ? This unfortunately isn't exactly plausible here in Aus.
FONE is a crazy expensive here, a carbon mast (95cm - $2,591) is near the same price as an axis setup. A 7m CWC wing is $2,031. A starboard free-wing G1 7m is $960. Yes, I'm aware the G1 doesn't compare in performance but it highlights the pricing.
I've spoken to American stores (Mac, Real ect.) about shipping to Aus and it works out cheaper for some brands.
