When I wing for several days in a row, my wedding band no longer fits (too tight). I figure this is fairly common. I'm considering getting a black silicone ring to wear during the wingy parts of the year.

It's her sending psychic bad vibes when you're on the water too much

This sounds like a first wife problem?
If you just keep winging for several days in a row eventually you won't need to wear the wedding ring any more...

Then you wear the silicone band elsewhere, due to all the off-water action..

No ring.
You break or strain that finger? That ring will need to be cut off

And yes, I agree, it's a newly wed/first wife problem.

Funny bunch of fellas 'round here. Who knew? :)

Mark and CH3MTR4IL5, , we've moved past the psychic bad vibes stage. In fact we may be transitioning to the she-wing phase.

I definitely don't wear the band while winging. However, I cannot get it on my finger for several days after winging. Am I the only one whose fingers swell from winging?

I've been wearing silicon wedding bands for years. I've lost them paddling out on cool mornings while surfing and any season windsurfing, SUP'n.and of course winging. My wife just bought me a 6-pack of rings.

I only wear my wedding ring a few times a year. I'm too active with my hands to wear my real one and I dislike the feel of those rubber ones.

If you required to wear ring, I have suggestion for you: tattoo ring on your finger!
;-)

It sounded like this was just when you're winging. its not something that should persist. Are you new to winging or has this been going on for an extended period?

Most likely is ulnar nerve compression or median nerve compression. Google carpal tunnel and handlebar palsy and see if any of that sounds the same
(not uncommon for cyclists).

if you are relatively new to winging then probably gripping too hard. otherwise might be worth getting a harness to reduce continuous loading.

The swelling persists for several days. It's not accompanied by any other symptoms. I'm a physician and familiar with nerve compression and that doesn't seem like the thing.

Been winging for a couple years but only on an occasional basis. Beginning this July, coincident with my semi-retirement, I began winging daily for a 9-10 days with 3-4 day break, then back to winging. So I ramped up a lot in a short timeframe. I use a harness for upwinding but often unhook when the wind or swell grow too gnarly. Perhaps as my wing handling improves, so will the swelling.

I don't think this is a problem that needs a solution other than I'd like to wear a wedding band. It isn't a huge deal to my wife but it isn't nothing at all either. Regardless, I'm a bit surprised nobody else in this thread has experienced anything similar.

As you up your time in the water the overuse issues seem to occur. Interestingly, everyones issues are a little different.

The most common one I've seen is simply the wrist and elbow tendinitis issues. IMO this is helped by harnessing in but the reality is most everyone is riding with bigger sails and draggier foils/masts/tails then they really need.

My most recent overuse issue has been achilles tendinitis. I started riding radically loose kits and after a few months it caught up to me. I was pretty hobbled from that. I re-stabilized my foil setup and it went away.

Now that I'm parawinging there's dramatically less wear and tear on my hands, wrists, elbows. What will be the next, new, overuse issue I run into? Not sure but I expect it will come.

Give up winging or get divorced. Tough one.
