The spring in my Oceanus reel leash has broken. It is a flat ribbon type spiral spring. Has anyone found a replacement that will fit? Oceanus tech are no longer operating. Blue planet who sold and popularised the leash for winging do not respond to enquiries about it.

Mine is 15 years old now and still working well, so a great product. I reckon that you may have to buy a new unit, while there are still some around. surfconnect.store/products/accessories-kiteboards-leash-oceanus-board-leash?srsltid=AfmBOooxff-7tbvLfA_yZmnWogFBDO07fVe9r1TavrZZwPPUjl2ohrdg

Or just get the spring

Where have you found that? I cannot see it on the website.
Ah. That's the new one. I wonder if the spring would fit the older model leash too. If only blue planet answered their bloody email!
I've found a helpful spring company in the UK, Lee spring, who look like they might have springs that fit. I wonder what the units for the .25 and .20 numbers are to convert into newtons.
I couldn't find a replacement spring or leash so I made them.
I bought 15x0.2mm spring steel ribbon and polypropylene webbing from AliExpress. Notably, the original spring is slightly less than 15mm (14.80 iirc) so i couldn't tighten the screws that hold the inner reel enclosure together without inhibiting the spring action. If it's realised i could've ground it down slightly while it was still coiled up The outer casing still closes totally.
I had to bend folds into the spring material to connect it onto the reel and the axle. You have to avoid making any other creases as I can see from my broken spring that creases and some corrosion is what causes it to fail eventually due to fatigue. The spring ribbon is quite easy to cut to length by making a fold and bending it back and forth. I made the spring 3m long but i think it could've been much shorter and still worked. Not sure how to calculate the right length for a spring of this type. The spring loves to unspool out of the enclosure whilst being wound in and the sides are quite sharp so care is required.
I sewed loops onto the webbing to match the original leash. The original is nylon and slightly finer weave, but the substitution seems to work ok. The sewing needs to be able to take the load so I used bonded v69 polyester thread and copied the stitch pattern.
