Hello foilers, just spent my 2 week summer vacation in the cancer ward! The alternative vacation! Heard about people enjoying this sport who are over 70, who've had ankle, knee, hip or back surgery and who get up and do their best to enjoy what they can.

Here to encourage anyone who is feeling defeated. Underwent 6 hours of robotic arm surgery (camera right through my belly button, wow!) to remove a golf ball sized tumor from my colon. Chief Surgeon (truly talented hard working focused guy) told me - 12 mths to what could be called full recovery.

Everyday I risk splitting my colon in 2 and having to return to the theater. I thank anyone on this forum who works in a hospital. (1st overnight hospitalisation , I'm 60) Hospital and all staff, including cleaning ladies, were simply amazing helping me recover and overcome the monster cancer ever lurking.

It was as if I was living Dark Souls, I had become the hollow and battled monsters and ghouls daily until I could finally stand up and walk.

Please do not give up if you are also in a bad way right now. As Niki Lauda said after his horrific crash, decide to fight. Decide to fight. Always positive thoughts.

Post op was BRUTAL. Forearms and biceps were burning like someone had being hitting me with a hammer. Laid out with my new friend the HR monitor, all he said was 'beep' 'beep' 'beep' unless HR went over 83/84 then he would shout out 'boop' 'boop' 'boop'. In a dimly lit room I was told not to move too much. Had a panic attack and HR went up to 144, fortunately I managed to calm down again!
The monitor and I stayed together for a very long 12 hours!

Now back home looking out of my own window, listening to the beautiful sound of the refreshing rain and thinking how supportive my incredible wife is.

If you are out there struggling I hope I can bring you some comfort and encouragement. Need to follow an insanely strict diet (no stoma sack) so as not to obstruct the repaired colon, but Im getting it down.
As Bob Marley says 'One gut, one heart let's stay together and fart all night' and 'Have pity on those whose chances grows t'inner'
Again to any medical staff on here thank you! To you who is struggling - fight and fight and fight and listen to your doctors and medical staff.

You can understand I'm glad to be here and able to enjoy your company!

Thanks, and to make matters more interesting I was allergic to the IV painkillers, I would throw up lime green puke and have hallucinations - it was an insane roller coaster of medical madness!
