With all the advancement in new V2 and V3 wings and new foil wing tech coming out for crying out loud why can't one of these companies come out with a good simple wing and board leash harness hook waist belt combo already! I use a Axis waist belt leash modified with a Kaohi dbl coil with built in handle rail saver for my board and harness hook, but increasingly especially on windy days with waves am finding out the hard way that wing leashes on your wrist are hazardous to your shoulder so would like a good simple waist belt harness that can accommodate both,I'm Leary of just putting my wrist leash on my belt as in a big pull might peel the Velcro off but I will test it out as couple weeks ago got lucky and avoided a bad shoulder tweak by getting wing pulled in good sized waves much better to get pulled by mid torso, but then the tangle thing might increase but not a lot of alternatives just don't want mess up my shoulder.I've been using this simple waist leash harness combo very successfully for close to a year now and being a longtime kiter really don't need a kiting style harness for winging just a lightweight simple waist belt works fine for me at 225lbs no less. For me some improvements to my belt would be bit more non slip padding and kind of rail saver dbl down Velcro encloser at end of belt so it has a real tough time coming undone or un peeled Velcro which has not happened surprisingly to me but with a secondary wing leash attachment to pulls in waves will be more on my belt when adding my wing to it.Also with this style my board damage has been nill as the hook pivots very easily on belt surprisingly, but a good stout plastic or padded hook would be slick too and a good belt buckle is food for thought too.I like the Kaohi leash handle by rail saver very good (but could be a tad wider)for taking reasonable white water on the head to keep board separated from wing minimizing wing damage! Just a few thoughts for winging leashes as the wings and foils get better by the major players there wing leashes to wrist are in the dark ages and in waves beware of shoulder issues,Keep it simple sailor??

I often wear my windsurf harness with the aluminum hook removed.
Velcro the wing leash to the wide spreader bar webbing, velcro the board leash to webbing on the back of the harness.
Since velcro is used anyway, there is no retention difference.
If a speedboat runs me over, the velcro might fail.
The message I was trying to convey was very surprised with all the advancements in wing and foil development since beginning of winging what 1.5-2 yrs ago the wing leash to wrist is antiquated as if your winging in waves you will sooner or later discover that it can be very hazardous to your shoulder/elbow on a good wave pull or heavy gusts! Just hoping that one of these winging manufactures start producing a updated state of the art simple waist belt/harness combo that can securely attach both wing leash and board leash similar to my rudimentary one I made that works pretty darn good for a big guy but like to see a legit production one to be developed and strangely nothing that I'm aware of currently on the radar the need is there if your winging in waves

That's a good idea mate....honestly you should start producing them.
I made a webbing belt with clip and a para cord pigtail type of failsafe....I thought about putting the hook on it but mine is a little flimsier than your so dunno if it'll work.
What about the MB Boards belt? The one for board leash shown here below but I don't know if it also doubles for attaching the wing.. Would make sense if it did.

The wing leash cuff goes on the waist belt all good.
Looks like NSI Inc has made a simple wing specific belt/harness definitely a step in the right direction finally, props to NSI

Don't you guys have windsurf or kite harnesses laying around?
I have 5 high hook seat harnesses in the garage.

Lee been kiting close to 20 yrs,and winging close to 1.5 yrs.IMO a kiting harness for winging is way overkill you just don't need that weight and bulk in a winging harness for winging, plus the damage it might cause to your board!my simple one I've been using for a year plus at 225lb no less is all you need but a souped up version of mine like NSI has in link above is pretty slick heading in right direction,If I used my kiting harness winging my boards rails/ deck woulda been toast a long time ago all due respect mate too each his own

It's probably somewhere in this forum, but what riders are using in waves, coiled leashed mounted at belt or calf? What length? Thanks
Only a genius would remove the spreader bar.....normal people would leave that useless part on to struggle with.
Seen a few, maybe 15, good wing foilers in surf conditions.
None used coil for board.
Good or bad wing foilers doesn't mean a lot...what does matters is having input from riders who wave winged and bailed, Titouane from F-One is an awesome wing foiler and he do not wear any leash! So I'm not sure good wing foilers is the way to copy!! ;-). Did you wave foiled and what was your struggle or HaHa moment with leashes @LeeD.I know local river paddlers/Surfers doesn't like coiled leashed because they tend to bounce back the board in their face. I never used a coiled leash for sup/surf and wing. But I hate to have a leash flapping in the water and some are saying have your board very far from you in the rince cycle...so options are coiled leash...or straight 8' leash?
"Good" foilers have foiled MANY days, so have experience and have tried different setups.
Most bad foilers are less experienced, tried fewer setups less days, and have limited knowledge.
Me? Don't matter. I am a newbie, but have seen and talked to a dozen wingers who surfsail in 5+ foot shorebreak, jump both directions in surf, and considered EXPERT by anyone.
However I do have 25 years expert surfing experience, and coul leashes are NOT for breaking sur conditions.
As for a wing leash....yes, if you want, but be aware the coil makes a flagging wing much harder to control, and you need control of the wing when it's down. You don't need to ask why.![]()
None used coil for board.
For the coil:
- coil at the ankle is hell. coil for a waist leash is optimal.
- BUT, you cannot have two coiled leashed (wing + board), if they tangle the mess will be horrible
So basically, you have to choose your battles, and where to use the coiled leash. For instance most of the Gong team now use coiled leashes for the wing but a straight leash for the board, often the FCS Freedom one, that tangles less at it is stiffer and has less drag (textured surface + reduced diameter). But pitbulldoug chose to use the coil for the board, it depends on individual preferences.

This works for me. No tangles. The O&E leash does tangle not the thicker Balin ones.

Connect this to waist harness

Connect to wing with larks head.

Thanks a lot!!! I have a f-one wing and the leash is super short and never in the way of harness lines(only use harness on snow), that was for the board only. I'll start scraping the net!

I second Hilly, use the Balin waist leash attached to the board and the Balin bodyboard wrist strap around the waist belt, rather than the wrist, with the other end (board end) on the wing. No problems. The Balin leashes have proved to be excellent.
Do any of the companies do just the waist harness? I haven't seen them separate.
I have all the leashes and such but need the harness. I guess I could sew one up but sometimes it's just easier to buy...

A couple days in trying out the new NSI minimalist winging harness here and is pretty darn good for a V1 winging specific winging harness, simple lightweight and functional easy hooking and unhooking even for a heavyweight like myself 225lbs, really like it can't believe I was using the wing leash to my wrist for more than a year, much better connected to the waist by far,it's never perfect with winging leashes but have to say NSI hit it with there V1 winging specific harness works great. you just don't need a bulky heavy kiting harness for winging this simple lightweight harness is the best out there IMO definitely a upgrade from my homemade harness I've been using for close to year which worked very well for me too, pict my old and new NSI here
