Hi, Would really like to hear your thoughts on the 1200 MA foil, relative to the Foil you replaced in the video.
I currently use a Naish HA 1240, and it works well for me, at 75Kilos, on a Naish 85L Hover, and using either a Matador 5m or 4 m, but I'd like more of a 'carving' loose feel from the foil, so thought about the MA series, but was slightly worried it might be too 'twitchy' for my ability ? I can't Tack yet! Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the MA series.
Today I got to try my new MA1200 foil..
Loved it.. ![]()
I love your videos, conditions always look fantastic. I was out in the North Sea today, big side swell lumpy and bumpy, would love some of that sun and flat water.
So who is the MA series aimed at DJ? I'm on the 1040HA almost full time, occasionally put the 914HA on when it's flat but otherwise it's swell riding on the 1040HA/280.
I have read it's more for powered winging, jumps etc.

If loose and carvy is what you're looking for.. you should try this foil.. At 100kgs and being an old fart my most used foil is the big HA2140 and although I have many Naish foils including the HA1240 and even the 914 I have found them (at my skill level) a bit twitchy and I struggled with the acceleration in gusts making it feel like someone has pulled the rug out from underneath me..
I wanted to start using smaller foils when the wind is strong enough but my priority is control and ease of use and when I first enquired about the new MA's I was told the 1240 is probably the better choice for winging because it will be faster.. So I originally passed on the idea of getting one.. But after thinking about it and realising that top speed was not my main goal I though this foil might actually be perfect for me.. So I took a gamble and ordered one..
I was pleasantly surprised to find it very easy to get up on the foil and I didn't do my normal up/down hobby-horsing thing that I often do with smaller foils.. and once up I felt totally comfortable and relaxed.. It still felt fast but not crazy fast.. It didn't have the glide of my big 2140 foil but that's to be expected for a foil almost half it's size..
It's still early days for me on this foil so we'll see after a few more sessions how it goes.. I like the compact shape and I'm thinking my wing could even flap against the end of it without those bread knife type wing tips that most most foils have slicing into my wing canopy.. It felt looser when up on the foil but still easy to hold a straight line.. I really liked it and glad I took the gamble.

Thanks.. I'm lucky to have these conditions and also that it's only about 1 minutes drive from my home.. The sand bar was the shallowest that I've ever seen it and it was only knee deep in places.. I hope you start getting better conditions soon as you head into your summer as we approach our winter.

I think you're right about what the MA's are aimed for with powered winging and jumping being it's main purpose but that doesn't mean it's not a good foil for everyday type winging.. It has to be the safest foil that I've used so those who are paranoid about falling onto a sharp and pointy wingtip when learning might like this foil option.
Thanks DJ, yes, the tips of the 914 have to be respected. If you haven't tried it yet, add the 80cm fuselage to your foil. Makes riding the smaller wings easy.

Ok thanks.. btw is that 80cm fuze the windsurf fuze?

just to chip in since I had compared the MA1000 vs my own HA1040 (on short fuse + HA220 with a +1 degree shim). I would say its looser when carving around on flat or small chops, much easier to get out upwind (esp. on toe side) in choppy or even small white water .. lots of fun, is a bit slower and jumps super
. Hope this helps. Still waiting for chance to try in proper waves (not seen any decent swells recently here in Perth).

Yes, it's the windsurf fuselage, but works perfectly for winging. You nont need to move your mast location at all, just bolt it on. Makes gybes and foot switches a breeze, really stable underfoot . The 1240 now feels slow and draggy.

Good to know thanks.. I have one of those.
