Hi all, after advice for myself. 65kg female. Have been learning on naish jet 2000 MA foil and Naish hover 125L board. Have just downsized the board to KT 90L and considering downsizing foil a bit as I feel like (especially with lighter board) it's just popping me up far too quickly and finding myself breeching a lot even with trying my best to put weight forward to control it a bit more (and putting right at back of rails). I'm going to keep pushing with it for now but wondering what foil would be my next best step? Ideally Naish so I can continue to learn with same set up. I've read online that based on my weight should be going for 1300-1400 foils, however it seems Naish only has MA foils 1600 or 1200, and I feel like I shouldn't be riding HA yet as I'm still a beginner. Generally riding in 15-25kt winds. Any thoughts welcome ??

Go the HA1240 or even the HA1040 at your weight. The Naish HA's are really easy to use unlike some of the other really high aspect wings from other brands. The new 2024 HA's are brilliant, they have kept a longer cord in the centre which resists the sudden stall of other brand HA's, but are still thin with plenty of glide and speed.

Totally agree with air sail. I went down an identical learning pathway as you. Same board, same foil.
Once you can get up on foil and sail around, go way down in foil size for your body weight and board size.
i find that all HA foil have very similar take off speed within a 5 knot range which was a surprise for me.
My 840 foil gets going almost as early as my 1800. The big difference being that the smaller foil will let you go
much faster than the bigger one as the wind speed increases and way more sensitive to input hence more fun.
Change down to the 1040 HA and you won't need to get a new foil for a long time. Or 1240 HA if you're timid !

Concider the MA1200.. I love mine..

Try and demo before you buy because I think you will find the jump from your MA2000 to a 1240 or 1040HA too big.. Where are you located?

Hey Holz,

a few steps in this process other than just size of foil. a 2000cm2 is far too big though for 65kg. The MA are a bump and jump style foil, great for turns, jumping, surfing and control, the HA's are to maximize glide and efficiency to speed as their priority, The Ultra Jet is turning and maneuverability as a priority, the Mach-1 is VMG efficient, built for constant high averages in all directions. Understanding where and how you wish to ride is important before deciding what you should be riding. All foils have a purpose, but no foils do it all (not from any brand). So understanding what you're after will help guide the selection. Great that you're progressing and ripping!

Try not to get sucked into the hype, and think truly about what you're after in your riding, and an honest goal of where you'd like to get to. Then build your quiver around achieving this goal.
happy to help further.
ride safe,

JB
