Hi, I'm new here :-)
I'm a windsurfer and new in foiling. I have a Naish Hover 110l and a Naish HA2140. I'm 186 cm and 95kg. The board is really fine! Can someone help me find my foil mast position? I started in front and moving further and further back in the US track. It's difficult to come up and when I'm up I have much pressure on my front foot. Can someone help me?

There is no definitive answer because it depends on rider, board, and wind. I would just put it in the middle. Then don't use foot straps. That way you can move your feet around once you're up on foil. On windy days or if you're going down wabes, put a back a little further.

I use the HA2140 90% of the time on my 125L Hover and always have my mast about 1/2 an inch to 1 inch (1-2cm) from the front of the boxes.. I'm your weight.. Unlike windsurfing front foot pressure is pretty normal at first but it will start to feel more balanced (front to rear) in time.. Try leaning forward and back using your hips rather than just foot pressure..

I love the big 2140 and you can see it at the start of this recent vid..

I'm also using it here in this vid where I'm keeping up with my friend on his Axis 999 at the 2.10 mark.

DavidJohn and Jake, thank you for your answers! John, at the moment is my sweet spot ca. 3-3,5 cm from the front of the box, depending on the wind. I have a S26 110l board. I think that fits to your position on a 125l board. I have the most problems in small choppy conditions to come up. I need more time on the water. Nice MA foil! Nice vid! Which stab do you use? 280? 310? is MA 1200 big enough for "our" weight?

More time on the water is the answer.. and trying not to use those old windsurfing techniques because it's so different.. Friends with the 110 Hovers use similar mast positions to me.. The MA1200 is big enough but I find requires more constant wind where the big 2140 glides though lulls in the wind better.. I'm using the 310 stabilizer.

Kane deWilde's method in Robert's video (blue planet surf) @11.52 is a good place to start
and Damien explains well the issue of early lifting and having trouble pumping up depending on mast position

Thank you very much. I'll keep on trying.

what do you mean other than too much back foot pressure?

Hi
ive recently moved on to a HA1400 with a 95 hover. Out of interest my mast is middleish.

I know what you mean about getting up on foil in chop. You need board speed and to keep the board more level when getting on foil. when I go out in heavy sea/chop I find I breach a lot as do not have enough board speed and using too much back foot pressure. I really focus on front foot pressure and rise out of the water gradually.
I am ex windsurfer and it takes a lot to change technique, I first started riding it like a windsurfer but now ride over the foil and a more central, balanced stance. 100% better. experiment, time on the water, it will happen.

I'm on the S27 and still very much a beginner. Using the sail I've got the foil to the back of the box and mast foot in the middle. The board is reasonably neutral, in the waves I'm still struggling to find the right position for everything . More practice I guess

Hi rgmacca, thx
I read your posts on choppy conditions and felt the same.
one big problem is coming up in chopped conditions (strong wind chops) because chops slows you down.
Foil more in front helps but
when I'm up on foil it's hard not to overfoil because of to much speed I. Strong wind.
I think the solution for strong wind is -> foil back in US track and better "come on foil" technique

After a few more sessions on the water 2cm from the front of the box seems good for the HA2140 with the Hover 110l S26. Thx DJ. Better wing skills help not to overfoil ("open the wing" to slow down). Better pumping skills and speed is needed in choppy conditions. Thx rgmacca.

Thx Alan Cadiz for your awesome vid instructions.

This sport is so much fun!!!
