Greetings foilers, I've been enjoying your postings for awhile and would appreciate any info regarding the Los Angeles area. I'm planning on visiting from Oct 17th for about a week.
I realize this forum is mostly Australia based. But you have a pretty widespread fan base.
I'm an intermediate foiler that kites, prones and wings. I'm bringing wing/prone gear and would love to foil with someone in the LA area. Or get info on spots and local etiquette.
I've been surfing forever, foiling for a couple years now and am very respectful and appreciative of any info

Sunset Sailboards is from there, mostly San Pedro, but anywhere you have wind and water.
Oil spill closed beaches last week, but should open in 2 weeks.
Santa Ana's should blow then, skight offshore and very gusty.
I sailed Gladstones in Santa Monica a handful of times.

Was just in santa barbara and Leadbetter beach just off downtown Santa Barabara had quite a nice scene going... If you can make the 2+ hour drive from LA. Looks like they pick up more wind than santa monica when its coming from the north (and going a little further north and north west up the coast gets more wind and sooner). And the Ventura area is about an hour from LA and has some great surf and winging spots too. Belmont Shores (by Long Beach in Los Angeles) is another good area to check out for winging.

Belmont sucks. if in that general area hit up Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro or Seal Beach for winging. There are spots closer to Santa Monica that get some wind like Leo Carrillo and Sunset/Topanga but you might have to deal w/ shorebreak.
For prone, I've only gone to Seal Beach in the "river mouth" which has water of dubious quality. I hear people also go to PV Cove (aka Bluff Cove)... longish walk down to the water and is a reef, so know your tides and ask questions.
There's an LA Foil Club or something like that maybe on FB or somewhere else... there are some vids out there winging the Malibu area.
Cant disagree with a more experienced persons view on Belmont Shores but its the only place I've done my beginner-level winging in LA.
Leo Carillo/Pt Mugu is one of my fav spots on that section of the coast (but never winged there).
Sunsetsailboards, right on appreciate the heads up. Starting to narrow down my choices. Bringing a wing but always have the option to prone it. I really only wing around surf and swell. Not really into flat water. To me it's all about riding something. Thank you.
you can also do a downwinder from Cabrillo to Belmont if it's windy. Cabrillo is on the ocean but south facing and partially blocked by Catalina Island. There are some swells that make it in, and others can make it in around the corner upwind up at Sunken City. The open ocean swell on a windy day can be rather large, and they've had the best year in decades in terms of swell and waves at Cabrillo.
Sweet! I love downwinders... pray for wind haha. Bringing the lift V2 150 for prone, V2 200 for winging and the 170 HA for both.
