I was invited to go with a group to La Ventana. Is gear readily available to rent while I'm there? The whole purpose of the trip is to windfoil and wingfoil. I don't want to travel with any of my gear.
There are quite a few places where you can rent wing gear. The only place I know that rents wind foil gear is Wyatt's:

Yes, there's plenty of rentals that pop up on google searches. I don't know your skill level or happiness level based on the gear you ride but I'd make sure to send some emails and confirm they will have what you want. Traveling across the world to a foiling spot where you don't have the gear you want really sucks.

Highly recommend Wyatt's place. But his rental gear is only available for guests staying at his place, not for walk ups.
Plenty of wingfoil gear rentals in LV, I'm here for the season if you have any other queries.
Supposedly there's gear from a few brands being sent for us to use. Boards are the big question. We haven't heard if they're sending boards too.

I was looking at Wyatt's place, unfortunately we're staying at a house down near Baja Joes I believe.

My skill level is low. I can mow the lawn all day and ride small waves, but I don't make many jibes yet. I'm better at windfoiling, but have kind of committed myself to winging because we go to some beaches where winging gear is just easier to carry the distance from the truck to the beach.

Reach out to Saladita. They have gear. Their location is north of you but a lot of them live down near Baja Joes and can get the gear there for you.
playa central also isnt far.

Thank you! I'll keep these spots in mind. I'm waiting on the final details from the shop that invited me to come along. I'm just trying to be proactive in case I need a board.
try this place: www.aquaventana.com/windsurfing
Esteban's place... nice restaurant there too Coyas on the roof with a nice view. Used to be the fanciest place in La Ventana. They rent out Duotone/Fanatic stuff as well as some other brands I believe.

I was there for the last two weeks of January last year with a 4.5 & 3.5. Used the 3.5 more and almost bought a 2.5. There were a couple days where a 5.5 was in order, but I used them to lick my wounds. Hoping this year is the same.
does it matter where in la ventana you stay or can you foil at any place along the beach. What is the best place (eg campground, south of campground)? Looking for a place where no car is needed and I can simply carry my board/wing to the beach from an Airbnb.
and how do you get from Los Cabos airport to la ventana best if you do not want to rent a car? Are there any shuttles that also carry boards?

You can foil from pretty much anywhere, some areas have a little bit of reef and cobblestones in the water but the drop off is pretty quick and it's easy in and out. La Tuna and Playa Central are the busiest but you can go up/downwind wherever you are. We were at Palapas Ventana the past week and I either launched right at the resort or did a downwinder each day.
Generally you can launch anywhere from Rasta Beach in the north to South beach (in the south
) On light wind days it's often (but not always) windier up North so worth checking the wind meters. On high wind (big El Norte) days, many launches have significant shore break. I've seen people injured from foil mishaps getting into/out of the shore break. In my experience, Playa Central is the place to launch in these conditions.
Regarding the OPs gear rental question, specifically for winging, there's gear to be had but most (all?) of it is older stuff. I like riding a mid length but I've never seen anything like that shape for rent in LV. The boards for rent tend to be of the wider variety in a range of sizes. Moreover, rental fees aren't cheap. This doesn't suit me so I BYOB.
I am in La Ventana fulltime, sail (windfoil and fin) out of same gear shed as Wyatt.Any questions hit me up with a PM.
Poseidon just filled me in that they have opened a demo center with newer gear down in Los Barilles.
