I was about to pull the trigger on a Duotone Downwind SLS board 7'2 115L for those light wind days. I dont plan to do any SUP FOIL, just use the board for days with 7-9kt wind.
I am 87kg, ride Ozone Flux and Armie foils. Willing to get the APF1675 if needed.
But then in the forum I read somebody speaking about the SUNOVA Carver and made me wonder if I really do need that extra ft in length of the Duotone and can get away with shorter board...
from the SUNOVA website it seems the Carver is really that light wind board I am after...
If anybody has any advice I would greatly appreciate. Thanks
The Carver seems just about right, if on the wider side. But with many manufacturers soon releasing boards of similar specs/design, I am going to wait a few months and see what else comes out. Cabrinha Swift, new KT, and so many others coming soon!
I have seen the Carver in the flesh last month and I think the board is the direction most lighter and maybe mid wind boards will go.
I,m 188cmx95kg and riding a KT5.4x22x56l and that extra half a foot to foot length over most boards of that volume makes it soo much easier in getting going its insane and more comparable to an 80l and expect the same effect with the long but only 20 wide Carver.
My current lightwind wingboard is an AK Phazer 5.6x90l and its only plus over the KT is that it floats me and allows me to slog what I can,t on the KT. Regarding DW boards:
I also have an Casey Elite DW 7.6x23x137l to supfoil and to learn the DW foil and it is fun with a wing in super light and offshore very gusty wind. I can ride waves with it, tack in every direction etc, but it is a noticeable bigger feeling board where I think the Carver 6.2 is on the sweetspot at least for my weight. When I got the fundings I want one.
the Sunova dimensions look great. But the weight does not. 56 footstrap holes is ridiculous. The 75 liter would be 2 pounds lighter without 56 holes in the deck.
The 95l I held in my hands in Ireland wasnt that heavy....but an strap/plugless option would be nice.

How about something like that? 6'2x20x90l. 5.2kg. I am 94kg. Light wind solution for heavyweights like us.
I just got a Sunova Aviator DW 7'2" x 18" 103.6L for winging. My weight is 74kg with near-zero sup foiling experience. I don't think I can paddle that thing up in DW chops but might be able to do that in clean swell. But it is incredible for the intended purpose of a light wind wing board. I can take off in 8kt easily with a 5M wing and minimal pumping. But I find 18" is a bit too narrow to comfortably wing foiling on. The Carver with 20" which I think is the sweet spot for wing foiling.
how does the track position compare to the DW range, is it the same distance from the tail?

this new carver makes a lot of common sense engineering the DW traits into the hull design. smart.

That's a custom, based on Jimmy' downwind boards adapted for winging.
I really like the mid-length concept. What would be the optimal literage to take advantage of this design for a proficient dinger? I don't think it's meant to be ridden as a semi-sinker. Neutral buoyancy? +10L?

I think your kg+10 is a good idea.
From my experience with board about my weight is not really a sinker in the sea but a little bit more for this kind on board should be handy.
