Hi just wandering if anyone has damaged gear foiling in heavily populated jellyfish areas cheers Rich
I was out at Long Beach (NSW) last week and chopping up basketball size jellies everywhere.. No damage but I hate that almost going over the bars feeling..
Port Philip bay is often infested with blue blubber jellyfish when the water gets warmer. It can be like riding through a massive field of pumpkins.
If you get a direct hit you crash. I've never damaged any gear, even at kite foiling speeds and lightweight kite foiling gear.
If you're riding slow enough you can slalom through them. If you keep the foil up high you can bounce off the top of them. That's kind of fun. Badoomp, badoomp, badoomp.![]()
Contrary to popular belief the big jellies are pretty solid. You don't cut them in two if you hit them.
They tend to be in patches. If you keep riding out far enough you can get to clearer water.
nop , they are so jelly they slide across the gear, maybe the big jelly will stop you tho.
You're correct, one jelly won't stop you but 100 or more will. They do have a mild sting and crashing into a seam ain't no fun.

Tell me about that i had a session with a bunch of red one , with a prone foil , got stinged everywhere my shorty wasnt covering face included during duck dive.![]()
Yep, they're nasty little ****s but they're edible. Yum! 100,000 turtles can't be wrong.
