I have only tried stinkbug with a strike v2 and an ensis spin. The strike is the easiest ever to do it with and I haven't been able to work it out properly with the spin. Is It because of the dihedral , the middle struts or the handles ?
I've only stinkbugged the Ensis spin (looking to switch to the new strikes when they come out) I was struggling a lot until the last couple of sessions after reading some tips on another thread.
I have used starboard freewing easy - nice handle placement, SIC maui a little harder as the wingspan is wider, the Ozone wasp V1 was very twitchy for me, but all doable
I am a pretty new winger and can use this technique on soft handles but was having difficulty with the slick boom. It's hard for me to grab the boom and pin it to the board because of the thickness of the boom. I haven't tried it yet but I made a loop of 1/8th inch dyneema where I can hold the boom down with my thumb. I'm thinking it will help a lot. Here's a pic... I haven't cut off one of the ends yet in case I need to adjust. I'm assuming it should work well with hard handles.

I used to do the stinkbug with my thumb hooked over the handle so I could come up and ride away with the most comfortable grip. It was a bit of a stretch for my thumb and it was starting to cause a little pain. With my thumb stretched out I had very little room to move the wing about.
I switched to palm down grip on the front hand. I can pause after I get to my knees and swap to underhand grip, or do it after I am up and riding. It's much more comfortable, it's easier to adjust the angle of the wing and my hand is better able to grip the nose of the board.
PS I used to do variations of the crawl over the back of the board. On a more floaty board it's much easier to swing my leg over from the side and get into rodeo position, then slide back and finish with the stinkbug hands and knees thing. I haven't tried that on my smaller board yet.
Looks easy in this video with the SS Javelin wing -- lots of room under the wing to get into position.

I like this idea, I'll try it on the ensis wings to see if that improves things a bit since the the gap between the handles and strut is minimal

Yeah I definitely think the dihedral helps a lot as broVan suggests. Heaps of room and it seam they don't get messed up with the incoming wind that easily while bringing the wing up. i was doing it yesterday on a cwc 8m and it was still easier than the ensis spin

I had my first really small Board (4'4) 36/37 litre wing DW yesterday in more than a year for sh1ts and giggles. Basically same - rodeo sit, lie down, sink nose like a duck dive then onto knees below water. (Tricky finding the balance point on such a small board but eventually nailed it). So in usual stink bud position.
although I noticed and remembered my leeward (back hand) forearm is laying flat down on board next to (really close) my other forearm (which is holding the wind). Created most the stability for some reason.
Start in the water in the windward side of board hold front handle with front hand.
Put front elbow on board where ur front foot goes and cock ur backleg/knee flat on the back of the board (like a sniper) with ur front left dangling in the water.
Reach and grab back handle, then quickly..
Now the bit that needs coordination, pull in back hand and lever urself up using combination of front elbow, back knee, downwind wingtip and wind enabling you to bring front knee/leg onto the board and then straight up and off u go.
Takes a few goes to get ur balance points right. Its really quick and sort of looks a bit like a waterstart.

Man, I will give the sniper a crack. Sounds interesting. I can see the benefit not having to piss about getting on the board first. Nice.
