I have a Quatro 90L board that I use for winging, strapless. I'm not into boosting airs (atm) as I'm mostly interested in riding waves and learning to DW. Very happy with the board, but always thought that at some point I'd progress enough and I'd need a 50-60L board. But a few friends are all on their sinker boards and I think I'll be able to go from the 90L to a sinker board, as it's likely easier to balance (underwater) than a 50L in the chop.
My prone board is a 4'6" Amundson Customs 35L, but has no inserts for footstraps. I know I could learn to do sinker waterstarts strapless, but I guess it's much easier with straps.
So I was wondering if anyone has installed inserts in their prone board? www.amazon.com/ZHU-CL-Accessories-Windsurfing-Footstrap-Placement/dp/B08J334PBZ
I've shaped a few surfboards back in the day so I know my way around composites and the procedure is fairly easy, but wondering if worth it? Not sure about those 3M stick-on insert pads?
Wow,this metric inserts you linked look really good.
Not available in the Amazon link though...anybody know where to find these or similar?.
I want to put straps on a prone for winging too but easy to remove/replace.Normal "wood screw" inserts get worn out quick if you do this many times.

PS: i think they are these ones.Chinese quality, might be fine or disastrous.

I would not use the 3M stick-on. Mine failed after a few sessions. Nothing like your strap ripping off when you're doing a big air! ![]()

good to know...
will probably try strapless sinker a few times, get frustrated, and then go for it and install the inserts ![]()
I would stay away from inserts with brass for sea water applications, as they will rust like crazy. I tried both brass and plastic (Chinook) on my boards and the latter remain the best option IMO. Also with metal inserts, the machine screw will come loose eventually so use a lock washer if you go this route.

Just use thread locks (e.g. blue loctite, but not the red one)
Thread lock works but i'd have to use it everytime i put them on...
And unless the brass is naval it will corrode as Mokuleia posted.
I think i will DIY some inserts with plastic and titanium nuts if i can get them.Titanium and steel bind together enough to prevent loosening.
This guys make them with steel inserts:
The foam core in these boards are so soft you might need to cut out and glue in hight density foam blocks.. Glass over and then glue your footstrap inserts in.. Might be more trouble than it's worth.

Already did some on a Naish UltraHover 85 S25, straps were a bit too far back.S26 has them more fwd.
Standard procedure is HD foam block +insert + glass on top.
I skipped the HD foam (did not have any) and 3xglassed the inside of the hole with overlap+insert + 3xglass on top in one go.Worked pretty good.Inserts were chinooks with 4mm DIY steel inserts, i think 5mm would be better.
