I loved it.. I liked it so much I went and bought a 3m and hope to try it out tomorrow..
It's noticeably more powerful than the standard WingSurfer.. Bigger handles.. Smaller windows.. But I don't think it's a good wing for learners or the inexperienced..
I was using the 5m Matador in 15-25knots and it felt like a 6 or 7m in power at times.. I can use my normal S25 wing all day without feeling the need for a harness but after an hour or so with the Matador I was feeling the need for a harness.. It gets you up on the foil quicker for sure but I don't think the wind range or ease in gusts is as good..
This new wing is designed for use in the surf and downwinding where the idea is to get up on the foil quick and then let the wing float off the front handle as you surf waves or runners.. I'm guessing the smaller windows is to help make the wing stronger when falling and being dumped in the surf and if it spends most of the time floating off the front handle windows are not that nessesarry..
I found the windows worked well but you often have to move the wing slightly to see though them so learner or wingers that sail in crowded areas are much better off with the normal WingSurfer wing.. Safety wise..
20-30 knots forcast for tomorrow at Green Point.. Yaaaa!!! ![]()
Kinda refreshing to have Robby point out the pluses and minuses so clearly rather than just marketing hype

How are you finding it after a couple of months?
Ive just started but went for the 5m Matador and liking it so far, thinking of getting either the 3 or the 4 for winder days. will the 4&5 be too close? Does the 3 require loads of wind to get going?
Strange they stopped at 3 mtr, considering it is for swell and wave riding a 2.2-2.5 would be a good option. I'm getting overdone on my 3.3 unit in anything over 20knots, yes it is doable but something smaller would be good.

I'm loving the new Matador wing.. and if you're looking at getting a second one to go with your 5m I'd recommend the 3m.. It doesn't take lots of wind to get going.

Naish do a 2.8m and 2.2m in their normal WingSurfer wings.. They have a better wind range and handle gusts better than the Matador so probably a better option in strong winds.. but hopefully we will see a Matador in a smaller size than 3m down the track.
The new Matador LT goes up to a 6m and it would be good to see that version go down to a 2m.

Great video. There just does not look enough wind to get going. when I use a 3.5 the sea is very lumpy and hard to get going. lol. How strong was it?
