In case you all missed it, the Cape Verde stop just finished on the WingTour and it was absolutely mind melting. Best waves I've seen in a surf comp for two days straight. Check the final day stream here:
They should all follow Cash's lead and start ditching the wings at the top of the point and ride the wave without the ding for sure!!!
Two observations:
- the wings are pretty durable, amazed that Moona survived that beating in the final, and Cash for the most part in his wash up the rocks
- even with the wing, that was very entertaining, lots of creativity and charging, despite the wings ruining a few waves by flipping over and getting in the way
I agree, I checked it out both days for a quick look and the second day happened to join for Cash's first 10 point ride
wow, insane, I stayed tuned for the rest of it ![]()
Total boss level winging/foiling/surfing!!!
Full credit to all the riders, women and men, one mistake and you were pretty much out of comp and likely out of gear.
Pretty awesome too that Malo and Cash both have very different styles but both rip equally hard, very very cool to watch.
Great stuff. After seeing that they al did race jibes on day one, I just had to try a few myself, even though I can barely do a regular jibe. Cash was quite outstanding on the one heat of his I've seen so far, so no surprise he made it to the final.

It's funning you mentioned the race gybe. In the few heats I watched, I kept seeing riders kick off the wave in the wind shadow and immediately backwind doing a normal gybe and some of them even came off foil as a result. I couldn't believe they weren't all doing a race or Heineken gybe. I guess it was probably really swirling and gusty.
Anytime you are going faster than the wind, during a gybe, the normal gybe should be a last resort, as it's really the hardest in that scenario. You always want the tail of the strut crossing the tail of the apparent wind, not the eye of the wind, when gybing. Rant over :)
